Fiat have no interest in WRC... They won 6 consecutive times, more than any other manufacturer... ever.
Didnt help their sales, Lancia were still rust buckets (public perception) and sale were slow.
Fiat own Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, they own Italy. They dominate formula1 (for now) and have a good presence on BTCC coming a good 3rd on the podium and taking manufacturers 2nd at silverstone this may.
Rallying success did not sell Lancias so Lancia left. (Fiat).
The Punto 1600 cc is only a gesture of kindness to let them know they're still around. Like throwing a pigeon a crumb, passes the day.

LANCIA were a seperately operated company within the FIAT Turin Spa group.Originally Posted by D2LTA

They abandoned their own GroupB Fiat X1/9 development.
There rallying success had come earlier with the 131 Miriafiori and the 124 Coupe.
I thought we were discussing CURRENT Fiat as in the Punto ??
That's all old history.
Sadly at the time they WERE rust bucketsDidnt help their sales, Lancia were still rust buckets (public perception) and sale were slow.
Scuderia Ferrari used to dominate F1 Ferrari S.p.a then repeated thatFiat own Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, they own Italy. They dominate formula1 (for now) and have a good presence on BTCC coming a good 3rd on the podium and taking manufacturers 2nd at silverstone this may.
Again all different company part of a larger holding group of Ferrari and Fiat !!
erm, GroupB ended so the domination of the Integrale S4 ended.Rallying success did not sell Lancias so Lancia left. (Fiat).
BUT they continued with the homologated Integrale GroupN quite successfully.
BUT coulnd't match the investment others were making in street car platforms to build usccessful raly cars under the new regs.
AND Fiat was losing money hand over fist at the time - a common position for the group
That was the point. The Punto 1600 cc is only a gesture of kindness to let them know they're still around. Like throwing a pigeon a crumb, passes the day.
There cars aren't even capable of being in the top league of the Super1600 class outside of Italian national and club racers.
