those same rumors were flying around about the first generation (actually it was slated to be a cosworth makeover).

Well, it comes from Autocar, and I know Steve Cropley isn't the type of person to print something that has no basis in fact.

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

"While our car was indeed fitted with high-flow metal-matrix catalysts, Ford hasn't attempted to certify the Cammer with the killjoys at CARB and the EPA, so it's technically for off-road use only."
the focus was fitted with a road leagal exhaust, the reason it wasnt "road legal" is becasue of how new fords new cammer mod' motor is, it hasnt been subited for testing and therfor isnt legal on the road, the car wasnt a race track only beast as you suggest. its just too new and not a full on production car(as it probly never will be) and has not ben emissions certified.

They made much of the driver "threw the Lambo into corners like a rally car, relying on the all-wheel drive to scratch for traction" WTF ! Reeks of driving to make sure it hurts the lap times Rally drivers drive cars like racing drivers on tarmac - throwing it in is for gravel !!!
"This time, he braked even later and threw the Lambo into corners like a rally car, relying on the all-wheel drive to scratch for traction. These tricks shaved almost two seconds off his morning-session times. Practice and familiarity trimmed a thinner slice off the Focus's time, but enough to maintain a narrow lead at 1:32.43 to 1:33.42. GPS readouts showed the Ford carrying more speed through the turns and exiting cleaner thanks to its more neutral handling, advantages that trumped the Lambo's higher straightway speeds and later, harder braking."
they took a normal racing line and due to the lambo's handling charictaristics, it wasnt the fastest way around SOWS. its a very tight and rough track and the lambo couldnt take it cleanly apearently, they said they shaved ~2 seconds off the lap times using the aformentioned "throw in" method. enough with the implied american magazine car bias conspiracy theory's, it was just a fun matchup between 2 completly different cars with teh same displacement engine and not much else in common.

BUT it "proves" that a US built Focus can beat a Lambo so it must be correct
on the streets of willow with a ford racing, modular motor equipped focus you aparently can.

    NOTICE the "high flow" comment.
THAT carries the suspcicion that it may or MAY NOT pass/fail the emissions test.
The point I was making was here was a one-pff made to go fast for track day and NOT YET certified.
MANY cars end up slower after certification

Go blow on your "conspiracy theory" BS
    I'
d say the same if it was a Mini and a Vauxhall.
    Get a life.

To return..... as I'd said, they didnt' talk about switching off/disabling the "aids" which make cars slower.

A focus that has been hand-crafted and doesnt' yet knowingly pass ANY emissions or safety or is even builddable on a production line

i take it you missed the part where this was just a "for fun" comparison between twp fast 5 liter engine'd cars with nothing in common? not which is the better completely road legal car, which has been safety certified yet, or which looks better. its a comparison between 2 cars of similar performance and different ways fo acheiving that performance. in the you'll be able to built an equivalent focus RS8 with parts strait out of the ford racing catalog. and theres even emissions certified motors that are already out that are better choices than the 'cammer' the 4.6 supercharged modular motor can be had and produces 390 claimed hp(and on chassis dyno's has proven time and again to belt out over 415hp) and with a simple ford racing pulley will see over 500 emissions legal whp. and would stomp the lambo with similarly setup suspention. this wasnt a comparison to deturmin what was better a focus or a gallardo. it was 2 different means to reach the same goal and the RS8 won, whether the exhaust was legal or whether or not the cammer will be emissions certified is irrelevent. because one way or another you and i dont know. take the comparison as it was. the focus won
