    Driver Winnings

does anyone know what the winnings are in various race series such as F1, WRC, NASCAR etc.? i was recently looking at some info on a driver, in NASCAR in 2000 he was ranked 37th with 28 starts and earned winnings (not including salary) of $1,135,850!

I know F1 drivers are paid alot (Click here if you dont beleive me, Shumacher's salary is higer than Tiger's but he doesnt have as lucrative of endorsements) but ive never heard anything about their winnings or if F1 even still gives them out.
    thanks.

In NASCAR, it depends a lot on who you are and your sponsors. For ex: Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. make a pretty hefty sum of money even without racing from commercials by Chevrolet, Pepsi, Budweiser, Frito-Lays, Colognes, etc.

Just from the races they make around a mil or two a year if they're good.

It's mind boggling!!! It only shows that your earnings are not a function of your effort. Of course being a race driver is no easy task. But a lot of people work their asses off and get paid far less.

Conclusion: You get paid by results. If you can offer to the market sth that no one else can, then you get paid a lot of money (Given that someone will capitalize on your abilities)

Example : If you had 1,000,000 people with the sporting ability of Tiger Woods, then mr Woods would not have so many revenues.

F1 keeps their winnings a secret. I think Michael Schmacher makes like 80 million dollars a year or something ridiculous like that and thats not including his race winnings.

Depends... are we talk US$ or what. Last I heard he was getting paid about US$40m a year.
Plus all the top drivers have bonuses for winning a race, pole or scoring a championship point.

Ouch, my bad. But does that involve advertisement and sponsors money, or just their winnings. If it's just winnings, then it should be about 1 or 2 mil I think.

It's hard to guess, which is the point here. It's all guess work (including the Forbes list), read the fine print down the bottom.

Methodology: Earnings estimates are for June 2004 to June 2005, in millions of dollars; tallies include dollars earned solely from entertainment income. Fees paid to managers, agents and attorneys have not been deducted. Estimates compiled by Forbes; published sources include Billboard, Pollstar, Adams Media Research, Publishers Weekly and Nielsen SoundScan. Celebrity rankings generated by combining earnings with other media metrics: Web mentions on Google; press clips compiled by LexisNexis; TV/radio mentions compiled by Factiva; and how many times a celebrity's face appeared on the cover of any of 17 major consumer magazines.
Basically he gets paid a s##tload of money. I think you'll find he is already a billionare.
