    Old skool

    Anybody like old skool Euros?

I had no interest until I went looking for a new car and found my E28, I'm really enjoying a comfy rear driver big 6 with all the modern gizmos.

Now I've got a taste for the oldies styling, and chunky engines (I'm already eyeing off an 80's 450SL).

I have an E30 323i, she's a bit tired and the central locking has fused (meaning I can't lock the car) but it's great. Not much in the way of modern gizmos, but it is a manual, so that's good. And my old Rover SD1 had electric windows and I had no end of problems with them, so having winders really doesn't bother me

    not really.

Most of them are in serious historic and rallying teams hands.
Those that can be pried out of the Irish Tarmac Chamopionships that is

Oz got MkI Twincams but alas didn't get the more specialist performance versions available in the UK. I'm no Escort expert but remember Ford Oz did sell a unique four door variant of MkII RS2000 soft-nose. MkII cooking models with the 2-litre option were very popular here, even in panel-van versions, went well for a cheap small car. They go for a song today

I didn't know they were officially imported...

Anyway...how did a Ford end up in my 0ld sk00l Euro thread?
Can we have an impartial jury rule if a homogulated special counts as Euro?

Nobody got these "off the shelf".

A works shell was only orderable from Ford Dagenham at the time.
The RS1800 engine was custom too.

MANY folks strip Mk1 shells and add the plating and do the seam welding themselves now

The Mexico and RS2000 wasn't sold in Aus ?? shame

    The "look" was the same.

Anyone into serious performance in the 70s added the forest arches to their Escorts

Confused as to why Ford wouldn't' be in "old skool" in European section given that Ford Dagenham and Ford Cologne produced some of THE great performance cars over the last 40+ years

Maybe you should define what you mean by "old skool".

especially as most Europeans wouldn't use the term and CERTAINLY would get the spelling correct to prevent being laughed at as some wannabee-gangsta

Maybe you should list what you think fit your expectation.

Dont know if they sold them here, but there are SOME RS2000's around, but of course their rarity means they get kept in some millionaire's basement with a tarp over them

See above In any case, the sporty Euro Fords back then like Escort Twincam or Capri V6 were totally eclipsed for road performance (and in rally or on track) by beefed up locals, eg Holden Torana GTR XU-1

Seen at Summernats custom car show, this street driven TC-model Cortina .. with a blown 351! Only a low-budget cheapie but it supposedly does 11s. I also saw a neat MkII Escort there with similar drivetrain, again with full street rego. Apparently some guy in Sydney makes an approved kit for this conversion

    (warning - large pic, sorry)
