Damn manual! I couldn't find any manual 5's whatsoever.. but I have the switchable mode Auto and i swapped the Diff for an M5 LSD, meaning I can't get much over 200kph...meh.
Manual windows, which is fine by me, less to go wrong.. except that one of the winder arms was broken when I got it, and I just recently busted another one... Power mirrors, that's it. Dunno if trip computers were available in 1985. Still, she's a beaut. Getting a little tired now, if she's still around when I can afford it, I'll fix her up. May even find a nice (BMW) V8 to drop in there, make a 345i or something.

I guess just the "Ford" bit of it was offputting ...the Escort is still old skool (the first ones anyway).

Maybe you should define what you mean by "old skool".
Old skool isn't the term in question ..Euro is . .I was kinda looking for more classic Euro flavor ..Porkas, Bentleys, Benz's etc..
But whatever you like I guess, vintage is the interest.

especially as most Europeans wouldn't use the term and CERTAINLY would get the spelling correct to prevent being laughed at as some wannabee-gangsta
    Oh come on!
Can a man not use tastelessly incorrect spelling without drawing such assumptions?

...And if an Aussie is considered "European" ...well, ok.

Yeah geez, I would have a heart attack if my window motors packed it in!

You might be better off with an M30 ...may be an easier fit with an inline 6 that a V8.
In the circle, a 45i is a turbo M30 like the one off the 80's 745Li.
Apparantly it's common to put the turbo gear onto E28-E34 533i and 535i's. I haven't seen one on a 3 series, but I don't think it would be so difficult.
400Nm (about 300ft/lbs) at 2000rpm and 10psi is also a grin inducing prospect.

Imho its a lot more pukka (not to mention credible) to see the bona fidé vintage phrase of old skool being used by an Aussie, than it is to witness a Scot attempt cultural admonishment with trash-Americana terminology such as wannabee-gangsta

JEESUS, sarcasm wasted on the plebs again

Humour is more than just what the script writers fo Seinfled manage
