    Finished: Corvette C6

Revell's new C6 kit is good but not great. I built mine curbside so I can't report on engine bay/drivetrain parts other than to say they look very good. Most everything fit well except for the headlight covers, and that will vary depending on how much paint is on the car before they are installed.

The biggest flaw is that the left front wheel sits too far to the rear...nothing looked bent or warped so I don't really know why it doesn't line up.....I guess we'll see if it's a common problem when more finished ones are posted.

Overall the kit is very good, the body, rims and interior are well proportioned and engraved. The glass parts aren't very clear and the car might sit a bit high in the back, I didn't adjust any ride height. I installed the chrome headlights which go in from the back...the way they are made with the lights being short tubes you'd think they push through the holes and protrude more like projectors....but on the real car they are flush so I installed them that way. There isn't a positive chassis lock to the the body so I put a bit of CA glue on the chassis and put the body on....after the glue set I realized that the chassis had pushed the healights away from the opening but then it was too late to remove the body to correct them. So....are the headlights badly engineered? Again we won't know til someone else reports on it...I had to resort to putting MV lenses in from the outside for lights.

I painted it with custom mixed HoK 'Fire' including the 'A' post which are black on the the real car, and cleared with 3 coats of Tamiya clear. Interior is Acryl Dragon Black, rims are Gunze Iron metalizer with Acryl goss clear topcoat. The kit comes with nice metal exhaust tips, the brakes are covered with Alclad chrome. I put screen in the lower openings where lights are suppose to go..just for effect. Also used seats from the new Viper kit, they look more racy.

could the fit have been better of you had put in the engine?

Anyway nice work again technically speaking, but looking at the model it appears that the proportions are a odd. It looks to be rather short compared tho the height but only measurements could confirm this.

PS: just started again after almost a year of abstinence. First project: The matchbox Bugatti 59 in 1/32 scale. We saw the car in Paris before it became the topseller at the Goodwood FoS Bonhams auction. I have no idea whether I can turn this rather basic kit into something special, I am trying to clean all the chrome parts in brake oil

    Thanks!

The model is correct, the C6 has very short front and rear overhangs.

Good luck with the Matchbox kit, it will be very challenging.

Nevermind: he's specialized in classics. It looks perfect to me.

You'll have to write GM for that one.

Dino, I felt the same when I saw it.

it MAY be due to you taking the photo on wide angle.
It will always fore-shorten the nose and tail on a sculpted car.

    Here's how I do comparisons.
The pic is the C6 official photo and yours set together at simlar size.
The areas where the model maker has 'tweaked' become easier to spot.
ive' had this explained in three ways ...
first. Laziness. The model maker used photographs taken and did NOT take into account lens effects.
second. Aesthetics. Sometimes the car doesnt' "look right" when it is perfect. It's all to do with the brains "expectations" of scale.
third. Technical. To keep costs down the mold shape/construction is compromised to avoid multiple parts/steps.

These differences can be seen REAL easily if you have the same car in multiple scales. 1:60, 1:43 1:24 1:18 1:10 A110s ( shame I cant' add 1:1 !!! )

As you can see from the pics, there SEEMS to be somethign amiss. I think it might just be your pic. Try taking shots from at least 6 feet away

Holding the model up to your lower pic it looks identical to the eye, taking pics like that with my camera is beyond it's capabilities. It is a Canon S100 Elph which has a tiny lens which reduces it's depth and width abilities.

Yeah more than likely the lens on your camera.

You get the same effect if you take pics too close to real cars too. It' swhy manufacturers publicity shots are done in LARGE studios and large format cameras - still

great, once again you prove that there is no point for us to start doing our ones!

By the way, do you paint with airbrush or use spray paint?

The finish is only clear varnish, or is there anything else?

why do you build them all curbside?

    Thanks!

On this one the orange was airbrushed and the varnish was sprayed from a can, then the varnish was polished.
