Who coined the term MPV ?

I made the mistake of trying to contribute in a thread in a newgroup which degenerated into the usual name calling from the idiots they now seem full of.

Anyway, the question is where did the term MPV ( Multi Puprpose Vehicle ) come from and whn was it first used ?

Chrysler claim the first 'MPV' based on minivan.
Matra claim the first 'MPV' based on original design concepts.
But neither used the term MPV in the early days.

Maxda use the model name 'MPV' for their MPV (!), but did they come up with the name or were they just the first to register it as a model name ??

So is a manufacturer created term or a journalist and when ?

Come on folks, how good is your knowledge, history or web browsing ?

The Matra (Renault Espace) history is at http://www.matrasport.dk/Cars/Espace/history.html

    Thanks I'd forgotten about the 600 !
Brother g/f had the 2 door. I'd always wanted to see the 4 door in real life as these are TINY cars. The idea of getting 6 adults in still makes me laugh
Still not sure who coined the MPV term though.
