    How exactly do these compete?

I'd probably take the M3 given a chance

Even though they don't compare, I'd for sure take the Bimmer.

I'm assuming these were paired because of the relatively close cost.

As Cotterik said, German for absolute sure.

the c55 is already on par or slightly lower than the m3, and ive heard the new m3 will have the 400hp v8 from the previous m5

Although the Vette is faster, i would still rather have the M3. American Engineering is just no where near Germany's. Look at how much power the M3's small 3.2 liter six makes, 330. That's over 100hp/l. The Corvette's huge 6 liter engine is only making 400. And besides i personally think the M3 looks better.

Although the C6 would be more exotic where I stay, I would still rather take the M3. I don't like American cars that much. German's rule!!!

a more appropriate comparing BMW would be the 2-seater Z4, which as alpina Roadster takes 8.15 to do the Nordschleife, exactly the time Sport Auto clocked for the C6.
    The old M3 did 8.22., the M3 CSL 7.50.
