    Replica Car Questions

    Hey guys,
New here, so don’t really know how this place works.
    Pretty cool so far.
My dad loves cars from the late 1930s and early 1940s, like the Jaguar SS100G and Rolls Royces/Bentleys from that era. His all time favorite car is the Mercedes 540k.
ANYWAY... is there any reputable company that makes cheap replicas of such cars?
I myself am not really a pre-war guy, so I don’t really know anything about these automobiles, but I’m sure there are many other models similar to the ones mentioned above, so any recommendations would be welcomed.
I think there are probably Lotus 7 replicas, and I think he would like those. Does anybody know anything about these?

For a Lotus 7, visit Caterham or Westfield. Also, put your location so that we can more accurately help you.

spend time browsing the numerous kit car web sites.

The UK is probably best served with the widest range of kits and prices.

See http://www.kit-cars.com/public_html/oldindex.html and http://www.kitcarnet.com/index.shtml and browse the manufacturers links

I've seen some really nice early Jag replicas around - my father's in the UK Jaguar club and we go to some of the events and there is always a decent smattering of them, usually built up on an old XJ chassis. I don't know who any of the manufacturers are as I've never checked, but there seem to be plenty of options for replicas of the era you're referring to, judging by the decent turn out on sunny days at club meets.

Actually, a good way of finding out these things is joining the club - I don't know about the US, but letters to the UK club always yield results. I've asked them stuff twice (via dad, since he pays the fees!) and they've always responded with excellent info - both times with reference to Jag suppliers.

Best I could find from notes this side of the pond was that they were a kit produced by Classic Motor Carriages using shells laid up by Fiberfab.
A quick check and I dont' find either of them still in any of the business directories. So I presume defunct
