Bristol 404

In 1953 Bristol presented the successor to the 401, which still showed its lineage form the pre-war BMW’s that also provided the engine for the first Bristols.

And although the body shape clearly changed, the venerable 1971 cc BMW engine was still under the bonnet, now delivering 107 BHP. The 404 was the two door coupe, the 405 was a four door sedan, using a slightly longer wheelbase. The 405 was also available as a 2-door cabriolet, produced by Abbott.

In total 52 404’s were produced, while no less than 265 405s came out of the factory. Abbott cabriolets accounted for 43 cars.

The 404 would be last version that used the BMW engine in its original dimensions. The 406 engine saw its capacity increased to over 2.2 litres.

Thank you. The front looks supicioulsy similar to the Lancia Flaminia Sport/Supersport. Even the badge seems to be traingular...

Yes, but you've choosed, out of the three versions of the Flaminia Sport/Supersport, the one that's the most different form the Bristol. Look at this one, it's much more similar.

Well it was not uncommon that designs resembled each other slightly. Think of the Pininfarina Ferrari 250GTE, the Fiat1500 Coupe, the Peugeot 404 Coupe...

just to drop my 3 cents, all the zagato projects of that time look really similar... take a look on ferrari 250 GTZ-P (1367GT) or lamborghini 3500 GTZ

Nothing it just surprised me that they were so similar, even down to the triangular badge.
