The Mig-25 Foxbat went around Mach 3 as did the XB-70 Valkrye.

Mig-25 would be the second fastest, plus it can pull 4G's (IIRC) at that speed. SR-71 can't.

the mig 29 is the current fastest active duty fighter today. it cruises over mach 1.5 (from memory) and also has the highest opporational ceiling.
learnt this from a magazine article entitled "must do rides of your life" for only 10 grand US the russians will take you up very high very fast
