    New Aston Market Placement

    According to Auto Express

the new Aston DBS will be placed market-wise between the V8 Vantage and the DB9.

I think that, if the above is true, they will offer too many cars on this segment. They are confusing the buyer, as the cars are very similar to each other.

Personally speaking I could distinguish the V8 and the DB9. But with the DBS I think that a person without much knowledge would have difficulties. It's like the CLS-E Class think, but with a third model in-between.

In the nicest possible way - you don't know much about selling Astons though.

Aston will know whether or not there are pleanty of buyers in that market if they are releasing the car.

Also, I don't think there is such a thing as "too many" Aston Martins - people will buy them anyway just because of the name.

I suspect that the DBS will have a different "character" to both the AMV8 and DB9.
    Thanks for all the fish

hopefully its a hardcore Aston...something like a CSL, Challenge Stradale, GT3, etc.

Pricewise it might slot between the two but judging from the sketch it looks to be most agile Aston.

My comments were not referring to selling it. I was talking about market placement. Placement is a strategic decision made by people in high ranks. Selling is made by people in lower ranks of each company (Salesmen)

A person that is familiar with the topic would not confuse these two.

Your comment shows - in the nicest possible way - that you don't know much about business conduct. A serious company plans before it launches a car. They don't just wake up in the morning and realise that they should have 100 products in the same market segment. They project the possible number of cars they will sell. If the market is over-crowded then they will have unsold products. This is costing them money, as they have to store them in ware houses and reduce production output in their factory.

A company thinking with such an arrogant way, will soon face bankruptcy.

I totally agree. With my comments I was doubting the article claims, not Aston Martin's Marketing Department. Previous articles on the topic stated that the DBS will be a Vanquish replacement, so that's why I was quiestioning the article. Anyway, all of the articles report on rumours. In the future we will all know.

Actually if it was another 2 seater coupe it would be a bad idea. However, if it seated 4 it would be sort of a larger Vantage, which wouldn't be so bad since if I am correct the Vanquish is the only other 4 seater.

Aah but what about the Rapide then! I see what lightweight is saying, in that they look very similar. Who posted the model they've released of it? I thought it was a Vanquish! Looked very little like the sketch. Will have to wait until I make my final verdict.

No reason to be so pedantic. Obviously the people who are worried about marketing such a car, the people in "high ranks", are focusing on whether the car will SELL. Without marketing, there would be no sales. Without sales, there would be no marketing. To be so worried over his use of the word, when you knew good and well what he was talking about, was downright petty and immature.

Well, this is an outright simplistic way of distinguishing sales and Strategic Marketing. Fact is that it is more complex than that. But let's not waste more time on defining MKT terms.

It'll probably be like this then.

    AMV8-Entry level
    DBS-Agile DB9
    Rapide-Sedan
DB9-top of the line (i think they might redo or replace the DB9 soon)

The Vanquish is going to be discontinued. Every thing I've read on this new DBS is that it will replace the Vanquish.

If so, that would make this the top of the line Aston, correct?

i think that aston is pulling a stunt here
theyre discontinuing the Vanquish this june? april? cant remember
they have plans for a sedan, a sketch for a car in a movie a top of the line GT car and a hatchback
i think that the sketch is the replacement for the vanquish but they'e going to introduce their new car with a reputation from the bond movie
    so it's going to be
    AMv8-Lowest level
    Rapide-Sedan/family car
    DB9-Nice gran tourer
    DBS/vanquish replacement-holy hell
