12 cylinders or walk!
Rallying is one of the hardest sports ever. Next time it snows, rains or sleets try getting from one side of town to the next at around 80 mph. I would watch it if it was readily available. However, I agree with you guys disliking Nascar because I think it's boring (except for the last few laps). Imagine watching something go round and round for hours at a time. I'm not saying it takes no skill to drive in Nascar but in terms of skill driving in F1 is definately harder than Nascar.

Formula one is my favourite. How can people say that drifting and rallying are boring. They involve so much skill and is just so interesting to watch.
Least entertaining motorsport = NASCAR, although purely due to rallying being mostly unavailable to watch on terrestrial TV in the UK it's fast approaching NASCAR.
Rallying's an awesome sport, truly sensational so why the hell does it have to be on TV when everyone's asleep? I always manage to miss it and it's always on the night you don't check the TV guide so not only do you miss it buy your Video / DVD recorder does too...!
The worst kinds of racing though are chavs in supermarket car parks, high streets and McDonalds drive thru's, van drivers and taxi drivers - I've had cause to want to see some of these people have a bad accident after they've done something stupid on the road, repeatedly.
Whilst we're on the subject, this is one for people driving on English roads...stick to your own side of the road! If you can't keep your car in the right place, slow down. I'm seriously thinking about buying an old Toyota Hilux and taking the side off the next tw*t's 3-series that comes round a corner on the wrong side of the road heading towards me.

Sprint car racing, for all the reasons I dislike NASCAR plus the track is a dirt donut. I've watched short periods just out of morbid curiosity. The cars are usually sideway and the crashes are horrific. When I was watching it I thought all that's missing is a fast paced fiddle duet for BGM, from "Deliverance".
Sprint racing might be the inspiration for drifting.

I hate stock car racing, street racing, and drag racing
Every motor sport takes huge amounts of skill, it's just different kinds of skills.
I reckon the reason people assume one kind of racing takes more skill than another is that motor sport at the top level has become so advanced, the skills required to be the best are far more specialised and discipline specific. An F1 car isn't really a car, it requires a whole different set of skills to get the best from it; similarly, anyone who has tried drifting will agree that is about as far from driving (in terms of the techniques applied to achieve the desired effect) as you can get in a car.
Personally, I reckon F1 has to be one of the hardest to truly master. The cars are so on fast, and the line between ultra-fast and ultra-in-a-coma so fine, you have to stay miles ahead of what's happening. And that's for an hour-and-a-bit of constant hard accelaration, harder braking and cornering forces greater than astronauts endure during take-off.
Having said that, rally drivers fly along at 100mph+ on.. well, whatever's put in front of them, usually a few inches from a tree, spectator or through a gate with eight inches of clearance either side. The possibility for disasterous personal injury is greater.
Basically, if you can make any car move like Loeb, Schui, Earnheardt (spl?) or Kazama, i'm in no posistion to call you 'skill-less'.
My least favourite though is CART (or IRL, whichever the street series is); they just follow each other nose to tail for whole races. It's dull.

As for drag racing - that's a lot tougher than it looks.
A top-fueller would beat a car already moving at 200mph over a quarter mile (do the maths, it works out). To hold a car together that will do that takes more than iron bollocks.
You are highlighting how well teh CAR does, as I'd said K, that's a lot down to $$$$$.Originally Posted by MrKipling
Reaction time is critical and IIRC in top-fuelers they have preset changes. So it's not a lot of skill - especialy as it IS condensed into such a short time
BUt it's not zero adn you wont' see bad drivers winning no matter HOW much they spend !!!

nascar requires skill. you have to be more precise and the crashes are great.

It requires skill but I believe F1 driving is more rigourous.
Drifting. It's posing for points.
