Drifting vs. Any other type of Motorsport

I personally don't mind drifting, just wanted to know what you guys think.

i don't really see it as competitive, more a 'fun' sport

I do like drifting and it's requires all lot of skill. But it can't be compared to F1, IRL or A1GP. Those are completely different types of racing. I remember the epsiode of 'Rides' in Discovery Channel, where some Aussie I think wanted to join D1 with a Pontiac GTO or something.

Overall drifting looks very cool, but it doesn't look that competitive, although I'm sure it is. But I think I like WRC more than drifting...

Everyone one who enjoys cars and driving, loves to see a drift and loves to drift. Anyway, I value a lot more a guy driving a rally car on the limit, and therefore drifting because he has to, than a guy inside a circuit, driving with almost no space limits, with a good surface, knowing the corners he will encounter and driving a car that is made to go sideways and not to be fast or efficient. Of course the drifting drivers need to have lots of skills, but you get sick of watching such exagerated and long drifts.

When the cars are prepared to drift (stupidly stiff suspension, ungrippy tires, etc..) is like you cheating. It's not that fantastic what they do. I like to see when a drift is something the driver is fighting against and controlling, rather then making it long.

Drifting looks like good fun, but imo no more entertaining than seeing Supermodifieds at the Speedway

    Or this: http://www.cardatabase.net/search/ph...hp?id=00000837

Personally I'd rather watch tintops doing proper circuit racing at a decent track

Drifting isn't racing and it's barely sport. It's like comparing Scott Hamilton to Eric Heiden.

Drifting is fun to watch as a side show at the races but not as the main event. What I'm saying is, I wouldn't go to the track just to watch a drifting competition.

I didn't like it until I saw it in person, it's kind of like a death-defying circus act. Two cars come into the drift area at close to 100 mph and then go sideways, then through the drift the number two car tries to overtake the lead car.

It is exciting stuff even though it lacks the purpose of a real racing...
