    M3 vs RS4 vs C55AMG

    Hi

    I've read EVOs' Feb issue, where it's featured a M3 vs RS4 vs C55AMG comparison.... and the "old" M3 is still on the top of the world!!

    Those guys from Bavaria still have an edge on everybody else...

    Regards

    I know the RS4 is tops in nasty weather and if I still in the Pacific NW it'd be my choice. I know the M3 is probably the most entertaining of the three, so it'd be best for track use. The super sedan that would be the best all-rounder may be the C55.

    Is the latest C55 supercharged?

    EVOness is not all about track times. And track times are always better for 4wd cars. But what pleasure can you have on a fast lap with understeer?

    No, it doesn't fit.

    HM made a very good point;

    The Quattro system is preventing Audi from producing a "proper" sports saloon like the M3; because of where the engine is, and the way that the quattro system always favours understeer, rather than neutral or oversteer, and removes steering feel.

    Modern tyres and traction/ stability systems mean that 4wd is not "needed" to keep control of 400bhp, as it was in the 1980s when Audi first launched the system.

    Audi could build a rwd RS4 that could be a real M3 beater, however Audi has invested so much in building up the Quattro brand over the last 20 years as the "cutting edge" of Audi technology, that it doesn't have the option of ditching it.

    Rather ironic that Quattro was initially developed by the engineers to allow cars with leading performance, and now the same system is holding the engineers back from that goal.
    Thanks for all the fish

    EVO is a magazine; not great to drive at all unfortunately, but a cracking read.

    I'm sure EVO used an M3 CS and the Audi got a better lap time, but they only reason they'd take the M3 over the RS4 was because of it's rear wheel drive. In a country like this, I'll stick to the RS4 thanks.
    Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn starts today.
