    what should i do?

Ive applied to university this year had practically all replies all positive still waiting on Brighton and Coventry to reply.

ive applied for a mixture of subjects:

marine design technology (designing boats, and engineering them)(Portsmouth)

architecture (you know designing buildings)(Leeds, Brighton, Portsmouth)

automotive design ( this one should be obvious to all)(COventry, Huddersfield)

Coventry has the best rep for autommotive design in the country etc etc...

Brighton is number 9 in the country for Architecture.( plus its by the coast so i can surf)

Portsmouth is one of the leading unis for the Marine side, and its by the coast which is a bonus for me so i can kitesurf)

Dont really feel like going to huddersfield anymore or Leeds so theyre out of the question.

Now the question where should i GO???
    I can't decide

This is something you need to decide for yourself.

Get the admissions folsk at each Uni to asnwer your questions
THE most important one is to find out from the Departments and courses you are considering what %age of grads get jobs in the areas YOU want to work in.
That might be better than chosing on which is "cooler"

i wouldn't pick any of those. I'd rather work on the cars instead of drawing them, driving the boats into things rather than engineering them, and blowing up the buildings(legitimatly of course) rather than designing them.

You have the emplyment in the industry figures ? Have the broken down the "key companies" ?
I'd go with the one with the jobs at Porsche Or Lotus !!

Sersiouly tho' we can't asnwer that as YOU are the only one that knows what motivates you most, which industry, which technologies, which companies.

ME? I'd be looking aerodynamics whether it be applied in planes, cars or boats. But that's because it's about the last true frontier beyond the specialisation of materials which is probably becomein more physics and chemistry than engineering anymore !!

yeah but j has a good point.

If you REALLY are flexible in career then become a lawyer or financier/accountant. Earn SO MUCH MONEY that you can enjoy what interests you !!!!! DOnt' become an engineer in the UK, it's just SOOO much hard work getting to that "comfortable" position If I had to do it agian I woudl not have climbed the engineering ladder to get to this level of income and assets

    What should you do? FOCUS!!!!

More seriously, I would recommend something that you really like to do (you are going to do it for more the 20 yrs!!!). It's probably hard to know that at your age, but it will eventually come to you. Try to think what you are good at and how that can be turned into cash. A guy that excels at whatever task, is always going to have work and be well paid. A good shoemaker can make more money than a crappy doctor.

Look at the long term when making your decision. Look which companies hire at each Uni, do you like them? If you are looking to do something for yourself, how many people graduate to do start ups. For example, there are so many people getting to be real state brokers in the USA, but when the bubble bursts -and it will- they will be looking 5 years or so of trouble.

    Computers
Had own software house doing commercial stuff - no challenge, lots of 'easy' money.
Chance to do something new never tried ANYWHERE for a multi-national and joined HP. Been involved int eh leading edge of telecommunications managements sytems since.
Senior management roles followed and served on numerous industry and education boards advising on standrds and processes. In fighting one of my patents came across patent lawyers ! VERY highly paid, technical experts and ALWAYS involved at he leading edge. You go to be a law graduate tho

There are THOUSANDS of brilliant engineers working for less than the worst corporate lawyer. I worked for a company in R&D where we employed the top 1-2% graduates. Fighting for compensatino to match their input to the company was always an uphlil battle. The same company didn't have an issue paying patent lawyers full expenses and £5K per day
