I wonder if it might produce some degree of glare off the nose cone into the drivers eyes.

i like it. a slight reminder of the glory-filled honda days. I think this is a tactical move though.. if the car is chrome, and on race day the sun is ultra bright as it so often is.. the light will bounce straight off of the mclaren and blind the driver behind/infront. See, those guys at mclaren know what theyre doing!!!

EDIT: ok suka you kinda beat me to that point

There is nothing specific in the press release about who produces the 'chrome' paint. However, it does state that the adhesives on the car are produced by a company called Henkel Technologies, so maybe they had something to do with it.

On the Mclaren website in the list of official suppliers it mentions a company called Eisenmann, a "world leading supplier of surface finishing solutions, material flow automation, environmental technology and ceramics firing technology". Maybe they had something to do with it.

The press release does state that....
"A lot of research and months of work have gone into creating this unique chrome finish," explained McLaren Marketing Managing Director Ekrem Sami
So maybe McLaren themselves had a hand in producing the paint.

It's good to hear that so many months of research have gone into designing the paintwork. Now maybe they can put their minds to trying to build a car that stays in one piece for a race distance.

Though I bet that reflective paint will look spectacular with the trademark flames and plumes of oil smoke coming from the engine cover!

They might be, I couldn't say for sure. I was just guessing form the info given out in the press releases.

Maybe you could try getting in touch with McLaren and see what happens. The only contact email address I could find on the official website was [email protected] . Worth a shot?

The cars are painted at the McLaren Technology Centre, I don't know who supplies the paint though.

Have you considered attempting to contact McLaren, as they are probably in the best position to tell you.
    Thanks for all the fish

isnt having a shiny chrome car a bit dangerous.

When its really sunny it will blind the other drivers... good thing they wont stay on track a long time.
