I saw the last few seconds of it.
It was Schumacher's car from last year doing the donuts on the ice.

Looked like ice to me. At the WINTER Olympics, usually the arena is full of ice because there are skaters in the opening ceremony.

sorry that was not ice, tires dont leave rubber tracks when you burnout on ice, and that car would have an awfully hard time on real ice anyhow. That was pretty cool though.

Yeah, that's definitely not ice, as soon as he starts burning out the light hits the surface in such a way that you can see the seams of the tiles of whatever it is they put down.

Although I can't validate whether the arena there was ice or not, I do know that you can leave tire marks on ice. All it takes is friction to leave rubber. And as fast as those tires spin, they can even leave marks on ice.

Well, lets put it this way, its more likely to be not-ice than it is likely to be ice... plus all those athletes would be sliding all over when they walked out.. and the ice would melt under their collective body heat... no?

btw, thanks Matt for the link!

I watched. Twice. On CBC, the surface was not ice. The skaters used in the Ceremony wore inline skates. It was Luca Badoer, and it was the 2004 F1 car. He did indeed preform a series of burnouts. And it was LOUD AS HELL!!!! It was sooooooo damn cool to hear that V-10 just piercing the stadium air. Holy Frack, i still get goose bumps from that sound!

They couldn't keep the ice from melting during the preparation so the use flooring instead.....the skater wore rollerblade....
