These are pics of the Ford GT race car that is bringing the GT name back to racing. Unfortunately it is only going to be racing in Japan in the Super GT in the GT300 class. Shame we need cars like this in the LMES and FIA GT's.

Just under ten seconds, just call it nine point five in round figures! : Murray Walker.
shouldn't ford be racing in lemans? to defend its glory against the ferrari's? anyways, its the GT500 because the GT has way over 300HP and it would be smarter to go to GT500 than detune.

GT500's rule heavily favors the purpose-built, sillouette racers that "looks-like" a GT, production-based car. Which is why cars that were production based, that enjoys success in FIA-GT/ALMS/Le Mans like the Prodrive 550 is outclassed by their domestic Z, NSX and Supra. The same holds true even for GT300 class as well.....Originally Posted by kingofthering

The Honda NSX is not going to be very nice to it
The GT is also running in the Speed World Challange with either a 4.0 blown engine or a 6.0 n/a pushing around 700hp.

Woudl be nice to see the GT race against the competition, but does it get anything serious in the series ? Not seen it

Speec WC is one of the more competitive series around though. The car would be closer in caliber to that of the FIA GT3 class this year or that of the British GT. They run the same type of rule as JGTC/Super GT as in competition management with restrictor, minimum weight and award weight. And is quite heavily involved with manufacturer with factory backed team from GM(Cadillac/Pontiac), Volvo(S60 R), and Audi(not anymore, but they used to race RS6/S4).

Volvo and Audi wont' be FACTORY backed are they ??
"Distributor" backed possibly.

No less factory backed than say a Prodrive 850 Wagon was in BTCC....

That's what I mean --- it wasn't a factory team either. ProDrive developed and built the car ... just as Ray Mallock is doing with the "works" Chevrolet cars ( and had done before with the Salleen S7 )Originally Posted by RacingManiac
But they are dedicated teams to do development with the "factory" money.
Then you get teams who "buy" developed parts form the factory -- these are usually "Distrbutor" teams in a country. They may also do some local redesign to suit local tracks/race-series

First there's no chance a brick could win outright against the LMPs.
So they are then only looking for class wins.
The 'Vette uses the lots-of-power-we'll-sort-the-handling-out-later approach and has been successfully developed over a number of years and is ostensibly a "better" platform in race spec.
The DBR9s are going to be serious competitiors now they have some development mileage under them.
So as I see it Ford could spend millions getting a team there that may break down, wont' win anything and be MORE egg on Ford's face. Losing to a 'vette and the Ford directors may as well emigrate
And dreams of repeating the 60s is just NOT going to happen as there is NO WAY Ford woudl bankroll to the extent they did back then to buy the win !!!
And finally all the good race designers have already got contracts keeping them busy So another reason there won't be a repeat of the GT40 !!!

The fact that they were also championship winning effort was no fluke neither.....and was part of the reason why Audi is quite keen to keep the Champion on board their NA racing program. The fact that SPEED WC is one of the few series that you can still run AWD car is a big selling point for Audi....

I don't see how you can say that. C6.R like the DBR9 were brand new car for 05, both Pratt & Miller(who built the Vette, with GM's money) and Prodrive both had previous experience to fall back on(C5-R and 550 GTS). At Sebring DBR9 was right on the money. Reliable and fast, while the Vette was dogged by problem that robbed them the win(exploding carbon disc down a 180mph straight...). At Le Mans the Vette won out on reliability(like C5-R did over 550 GTS in 2002 and 2004). And then in the last 2 round the Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca the Vette again beats the DBR9. DBR9 like its 550 GTS cousin excels on the much faster European track, and when racing in the states is not as effective. Much like the 550 days the Corvette still gives up about 10-20 Km/h down Mulsanne to the Aston....
What will be interesting, is to see the GT3 spec Z06 Vette against the DBRS9 in FIA GT this year....much more production based...
