I don't wanna sound picky, But could the avatars be moved to the right side?.
Other then that everything fits in heaps better and makes for plenty more room, A large post is now not so huge and same with a small post, Before it took plenty of space 1 line now it doesn"t.

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

I like it but I agree that the avitars were better on the left side.
I think they take up too much room and distract the eye.
I was unaware you could turn them off though.
    So I'll just do that.

I dig it. Change is good, and it is rather good looking.

Looking back, Wouter was trying to cover the truth that we were gonna have a new layout in my "What the heck?" thread.

I miss those round and smooth edges of those old boxes, now it is all perfect rectangles and looking boring. No offense, just some feedback.

For me it looks as it is a question of getting used to this new layout. That's the reason why I haven't wrote a reaction on the first or second day. It's already becoming natural to me.
It's just a little strange at the beggining because most forums use the vertical layout.
Since many people use over-sized signatures, I'll probably shut them off to make the reading easier. Even though I like to read them once in a while. After all, I love my signatures.
For me, the layout change was with no doubt a step further. And the new layout of the forums makes a difference.
And those wheels really make the boards look nicer.

The new layout is more modern and I somewhat like the colors too. The forum is a little slower to read and more scrolling is needed especially using a tiny 1024x768 resolution, but I seldom have to read it in a hurry. All summed up I don't think it's a big change to either better or worse.

Edit: by the way I'd change those wheel logos on the forum index page too, though it may just be me not growing in to it yet.
