    Suspension Bounce Test

On another forum, a member claimed that '60s and '70s Cadillacs had a "bouncy suspension" and "uncontrolled float."

Owning two Cads of that era, I knew that not to be true. At least, not true with the suspension in good condition and no worn-out shocks.

So I made the video below to illustrate.

I pushed on the fender of each car for several cycles and let go quickly. As can be seen, the car on the left ('69) stops moving very quickly. And the one on the right ('76) takes a little longer but is still very acceptable considering it is a limo with a soft suspension.

It would be interesting to see other videos of this type of test.
    Link of mine is below:

To be completely fair you should push the same corner on both cars though.

I remember I did something similar the first time I saw a Ford Escort, only to found that it was so soft that all the present people stopped talking. I was less than a teenager, so I thought they were about to kill me, while instead they all tried to do the same, concluding something like "this suspension is sh*t or someone forgot the standard ones".
I didn't even know what a suspension was probably.

I can tell you that Mini has no such problems. Because it doesn't have a suspension.

I'll try on the Puma. I bet it doesn't even compress. Long live jaw-shakingly hard suspension

IIRC the Puma was a relatively comfortable car.

Oh I see. I can remember that the standard 1.7 was much more comfortable than the Coop S. And much worse built but that's another story.

From the moment the camera changed angles I knew he was never going to get away with not bouncing the same corner of the car. However, kudos for going to so much trouble to prove a point - I like that level of dedication.
