^^^thats friggin cheap. Only reason i wont get a magna (i think theyre best value around) is the whole FWD v Towing thing. i dont think i should tow 2 tonne of stuff around with a FWD car..

EDIT: that sites a friggin gem. Completely forgot about the car fairs.

The last thing you need for towing is fwd. There's also http://www.autofair.com.au/ (where I snaffled the magna)

Most of the vehicles at these fairs are from desperate newspaper overpricers who've gotten sick of no-one calling, but you do occasionally find bargains

Some of those AU series 3 are dirt cheap now and most have cruise as standard, they also look a little better than the series 1 AU. They remind me a bit of a pasty

That is incredibly cheap. Does it go well?
The Magna, at least in my opinion, is a bit of an underrated sleeper, especially with the V6. Even more so if its a manual. I came very close to buying a 5-speed Magna V6 last June, but missed out - sold before I could get there. And didn't see any others, so bought the Falcon instead.
Do you intend to keep the car, or to sell it off for a profit? Its got to be worth twice what you paid for it.

Here you go bluey: Five speed manual Magna V6 sedan - and its a 2000 model. Cheap too. http://www.canberracarfair.com.au/pr...w.aspx?vid=716. I note the seller has no idea that that model Magna had the 3.5 litre V6 as standard. The 3.0 litre V6 was superseded in the TJ model.

As for towing - I'd say it depends on the weight of the trailer more then the drivetrain - but if you plan to tow your Dato, a Landcruiser or old Pajero may be the go. I doubt you'd be tempted to modify either a 'Cruiser or Pajero.
It the trailer is lighter - a Magna could handle it without problem.

I think ACT regs stipulate that the GVM of trailer & load must not exceed the weight of the towcar. Hence you can legally float one horse behind a Falcon but not two (btw tidy Falco-panels are hard to find now, esp at this price)

For a legal alternative to 4wds, I've seen LPG F100s in the ACT sell very cheap these days, no one wants them anymore

Verging on ridiculous I know, but old trucks are virtually worthless. You can find 2/3 tonner V8 LPG Dodge/International good-goers with rego - for scrap value eg under $1k - which might make for a hyper-cheap spare tow vehicle if you've somewhere to hide it

Or go the whole hog with this (plus a long set of ramps)

bahahaha, thats gold. I cant see myself driving something as huge as a F100 or cruiser etc. I think ill stick to the falcon.
