    Quick question need quick answer

I asked this question on some other forum but it's taking too long to get an answer.
I installed a CAI today because my air box was broke and I had half of it and mileage and throttle response sucked. The CAI I installed is visible from outside the car through the bumper openings. I need an AEM air bypass valve for puddles.

If I drive through rain not puddles but just rain would my engine get flooded? The filter has a lil bit of oil on it. Shouldn't water beed off it instead of getting sucked in? I need to know quick because I need to leave in a few min and it looks like it might start raining. Just my luck.

You're screwed if you drive through standing water without the bypass. Ideally, the CAI inlet shouldn't be directly exposed to ambient air, as this will cause it to suck in rain droplets (a pic would help as to how exposed). The oil on the filter is more for catching finer dust particles and not to repel water.

Without the bypass an inlet this low will suck in standing water, like a siphon into the engine.

The filter is pointing down or the top of it is pointing down and you can see it through the bumper openings. I will get a bypass but I'm more worried about the water droplets.

Even with a bypass wouldn't water dropples get sucked up? The bypass closes and sucks in air because the filter is completly submerged in water but what if the filter just has water drops on it?

I'm leaving right now. I'll check back in later.

But that is in puddles isn't it? There isn't any puddles of water that high where I'm at.

As long as the position of the intake isn't causing rain to be driven into it, the little bit of moisture on the filter isn't a problem. Just check after driving in teh rain if it's getting drenched.

EDIT: Sorry, I'm a little panicky about water damage as we ruined a perfectly good Toyota Celica, driving it through standing water. It didn't even have CAI but the water was almost as high as the top of the wheel. But I've heard of CAIs sucking up water from a lot less, as there are no baffles and far less volume than stock intake, just a straight shot to the intake manifold.

I did start raining when I left but it was fine. I know what you are saying about water getting driven into the filter and that did happen when I was driving probably since the filter is only a few inches away from the outside. I could not check it when I go to where I was going.
Next time it rains I'll take it apart and check to see if there is water on the inside of the pipes. I'll also check the engine oil for wear more often.

It works great. I noticed a good power increase and throttle response is better than I expected. I can hear it sucking air throughout the RPM range and even at idle. I didn't expect the engine to react this good to a mod like this. Overall I'm very happy with it.
