Shame then that the Cosworth engine is only available with an automatic gearbox.

The most powerful manual petrol is the 2.3. Whilst it's undoubtedly a dog's breakfast to look at and it's nowhere near as good as any of its' rivals, there is actually something it'd be good for...

...a very, very cheap RWD beater/commuting & shopping car. The best ones on the UK market are less than £2,500 now and because it's so ugly, you won't care if it gets scratched in the supermarket car park, you won't care if you damage it whilst practicing going sideways and you won't ever feel guilty about not washing it! The idea of having a beater so that you don't have to risk a decent car when you're trying stupid s*** is kind of appealing to me!

HEY ITS THE SAD EYED SCORPIO...

It drove okay, especially the 2.9 version but that car was so awful looking.

It had a few unique build quality problems that only pertained to that car as well (Auto Transmission, Power Steering, and some serious electrical problems).

The old one ended up costing more used than that version in some cases which was really funny because depreciation was so bad that it matched the previous models price by two years at some dealerships.

Some more sadness.... even though it could be called a 'young'timer now, it's still hideous.

A bit of a side note, this is completely unrelated to the Ford Scorpio.

True story, back during college before we got the Subaru Forester we had a 1999 Ford Escort wagon.

Mind you this was after I had been in a 1983 Accord for literally my entire lifetime and multiple late 80's and mid 90's Honda products. I had gotten into the car once and asked my dad what year this Ford Escort wagon was made. When he said 1999 I refused to believe him, but it's true. From my impressions I would have guessed late 1980s to early 1990s. The fit and finish of the dashboard was terrible, as was the quality of the plastics, and I could have sworn the car looked 10 years older than it should have been.
