Ford GT vs Ford Shelby GT500

    GT: 500hp, 500lb-ft torque, redline 6500rpm, 3350lb (1521kg), 0-100km/h in 3.8 secs (Car & Driver), 330 km/h top speed, $139 000 US. Shelby GT500: 500hp, 480lb-ft torque, redline 6250rpm, 3920lb (1780kg), top speed N/A (probably around 245km/h-250km/h), price N/A. p.s. the GT is actually very fuel efficient if compared to the Dodge Viper (13/21mpg). I would take the Shelby, I hate the GT's interior.

WOW... and this is the exact reason ford didn't want to post up the 500hp number for the shelby until the ford gt ended production... there are always some people out there who can make unfathomable comparisons. Let's make the answer very simple: I'll take the one which has IRS in 2000 damn 6.

I like the GT500, so I voted for it, but it's meant to have 475 bhp, and this is quite an unfair comparison...

It's apples and oranges. On one hand, you've got a 2-seater, supersonic, pretty expensive supercar. On the other hand (apart from having more fingers), we have a 4-seater coupé which is great bang for buck and slower.

    There's not a chance it'll only go 250kmh with 500hp. A 350hp SS will do that easy.

It'll probably go up to 160-165mph. And I prefer the Mustang to the GT.

    That's only about 265kmh, I reckon at least 280kmh

Well power-wise it could be able to crack 200mph, but I said 160-165mph because american cars usually don't have very high top speeds, unless they are supecars...

Extra horsepower doesn't necessarily guarantee more fun- in fact, it's likely to limit it, because you will rarely be able to just open the throttle and floor it.

What's the point in having a 200 mph supercar when the national speed limit is 70mph? Why, in fact, have that much speed when the Volvo in front of you is being 'safe' and doing 50???

I think the Mustang is all the car you'll ever need, speed when wanted, practicality, cheaper to buy, cheaper to run (maybe) and to me, it's cooler... but that's just me...

there's no real comparison here, 1 is a super car, the other is a "high performance" car.

    esp when the GT500 weights...quite a lot.
btw price for GT500 is supposed to be around $40k, add another $20k for dealer markups.

I'm pretty sure that the original GTs from 03 had 500 and the 04 & 05 models had 550.
