    They impounded them for investigation.
... In the raid, several private servers unconnected to The Pirate Bay were also taken by the police. Some have claimed that there is no legal basis for these seizures.

Yes, raiding and looting civilian ships is just plain wrong.......

When people download these movies and watch them they aren't going to buy the DVD so it is basically stealing?
but if they aren't going to buy the dvd anyway, then is anyone losing anything??

how about those DVD-burners you can hook up to the TV then ? My dad regularly records a movie on DVD to keep. Why the hell are the same companies building these devices when it is illegal to use them !!!!

There is no black and white for saying piracy is wrong.

    Let me explain...

    - Some piracy, admittedly, is shit. When we went to Bulgaria, many movies that we couldn't get back home were available. They were about £3 per DVD... and they weren't all too good. For example, in the middle of Spiderman 2, the guy recording it in the cinema put down the camera and started eating a packet of crisps. That, to me, is wrong. Substandard products and making profit from it. (Also, Fahrenheit 911 was actually the Stepford Wives... big mistake...)

    - On the other hand, we have the fact that it made iTunes lower the prices on their Music Store- people thought that a quid per track was expensive (bloody right it was) so they continued to 'LimeWire it up'. However, the use of LimeWire has dropped and iTunes has seriously had a boom since they introduced 79p per track. Also, where would the Arctic Monkeys be without the music they put across the 'Net? And we don't need to be reminded that the band who got famous via the Internet and free downloads also sold the most CDs in a week... ever.

There are more than 2 ways to look at things. I'm in a band, and personally don't mind our songs being shared via the 'Net, because it's more of hobby. Also, the sentimental and material value generally overrides a conscience. I now have tonnes of Incubus, Jeff Buckley and Pearl Jam CDs- after I downloaded them, I went out and bought the albums because I was impressed with the artists. I know everyone doesn't do it like that, but there are many people around me who do.

The US and Swedish gov. forces the police to steal our servers: 3 days

    .. yawn.
Hackers attacked the Swedish government's(www.riksdagen.se) and the Swedish police's(www.polisen.se) websites overloading them with half a million emails in seconds making the servers crash, allegedly this was revenge for the Pirate Bay raid. The police's site was attacked on thurday and then again on saturday just hours after they got the site up and running again. The government's site was still down yesterday but seems to be up and running again now. The hackers stated "the war is on"...

The Pirate Bay has now moved their HQ from Stockholm (Sweden) to Amsterdam (Netherlands), at least temporarly and said the'll have several backup servers in various countries in the future. With the police raid, TPB seems to have gained the support of the people, and the Swedish governement has been critisized of giving into the demands and pressure of the US government and Hollywood. Personally I hope they learn from this and realize they shouldn't kiss the behinds of others and even let other nations pressure them into changing their laws.

Here's another picture of the demonstration on the 3rd of June in Stockholm... I was surprised how many people seems to have showed up, and this was most likely only the active supporters of one Swedish city.
