Mini. The Rotary will be more expensive to maintain.

The Rx-8 eats & drinks a lot of oil and gasoline, but I think I'd go with it: it's -real- room for 4 (the Mini is a 2+2...), it's funny to drive, has a quite original shape. Plus, the Mini has too much kms on the odometers: 100000 in 4 yrs with a jcw??? cough*a lot of track-days*cough... Maybe the Mini is more "spiced", but... Let us know what you'll do!

100.000km in a Mini Cooper S JCW that's probably been driven hard rather puts me off, so I'd probably go for the Mazda.

    Welcome to UCP.

Although the RX-8 looks more exotic and special, I guess that the Cooper might be a better overall car to own. At least it has power enough, while I've read the RX-8 lacks some kick. Of course this is also a choice between RWD and FWD. I know wich I prefer.

I'd get the RX-8 and an extended warranty from Mazda. Then I'd drive it sparingly, because they really guzzle gas.

100,000 kilometers on a JCW? Depending on how it was driven, it might have already given up its best years...

What? Do you think it has many kms because he made them around a circuit?
In Portugal, track days are not that usual. And it's better to buy a car wich clocks 100.000kms than one wich clocks 25.000 because the dealer made it go backwards just a little...
Nowadays, a car with 100.000kms that has been decently served must be as good as new and ready for another 100.000.
The clock tells little or nothing about a car's condition. When I recently bought my MX-5, I did it admiting the 30.000kms were false, and judging the car by how it sounded, how it drove and how it looked on some details.

Still, trackdays or not, a Mini Coopers S JCW is a car that's bound to be driven hard on Portugal's mountain roads. On the other hand the Mazda RX-8 has less km's and it isn't so suspecting of having lived a hard live for the type of car it is.

I'd take the RX-8. It's Japanese, RWD and looks sharper. The JCW is cool too, but if I took a hot hatch I'd take a Civic Type R.

He said he appologized for it.

    Just for help:
    Mazda RX-8 $26,995

Now for the Mini, it depends. Do you want the limited edition JCW Mini? It sells for $31,500 and pushes 214hp.

A Cooper S fitted with the JCW parts retails for $38,000 and includes 207hp. (a base Cooper S is $20,900).

While I would say the Mini, their both going to be very expensive to maintain.

Go with a Mini Cooper S with a Sport Package.
