Black ZX for me, assuming that Black and white is used as fitted in the camera

    Very cheap, that's just their basic 50mm. I guess it's around €100. But it's a great lens.

'Bout $75AUD from eekBay. It's not a new one. I'm going to replace it with a new FA 50mm f1.4 for about $500AUD soon. Pentax also made an f1.2 version of my 50, a Leica makes a lens with an aperture of f1, no info on it though.

As my IXUS, which is a fairly basic camera, has B&W, I'd assume that the higher-end models have it too...

    You heard wrong...

The 20D has the ability to record images in black and white and to simulate several filters, red, orange, yellow and green. You can also sepia tone the resulting B&W image. This feature would be useful if you wanted to make B&W prints directly from the camera, or, I guess, if you wanted to see what the B&W image looked like on the LCD. However shooting in color and later converting in an image editor gives you far more flexibility to decide which "filter" effect looks best, or even to define your own "filter" settings. Though I do work in B&W, I doubt I'll make much use of the in-camera B&W setting.
    in www.photonet.com

There is not a single professional photographer that use b&w camera mode, because when you do that, you are discarding many (image) information and detail in shadows and highlights. There is no final result control.
The on board b&w camera option, was made for amateurs who want to print de photos directly from the camera. - Bad quality photos. It's like taking pictures with a SLR non digital camera and ask someone to make the laboratory job. And then, that's not your photo, because you just had 50% control of the final result.
The Correct way to make b&w photography it's to take the photo in RAW mode (best results in all kinds of pictures - it's like the old negative film) and then convert the file to jpeg or Tiff. After that, you should use a channel mixer to achieve the best results.
All professional photographers use this method in b&w digital photography.

So, i admit that i used that method, in spite of using the camera option, because i refuse to use an automatic option, when i have knowledgements to do it in a better way.
The effects in the sky and clouds, were made using a circular polarizer filter, it's not photoshop or something...
I think that rule in this photo competition section, it's like taking pictures using the camera automatic mode, without the ability so select aberture, shutter speed, or both.

If you want, you can delete my photo.

    Thank you.

P.S. - Please, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to start some conflit, it's not my kind, i'm just beeing true.

    P.S.2 - I'm sorry about my english.

Black ZX, that is a very nice explanation, and as far as I am concerned the picture is stunning, never mind the way you made it. However as you indicated, the way you manipulated the picture may go beyond of what the competition rules allow. Do all cheaper cameras have the RAW mode too, if so, yes than having expensive equipment gives an unfair advantage.

I was just wondering how the picture would have looked, when with a nice SLR and B/W film. You might be able to get a similar result too, even using some filters when going to the good old dark room...

    nope, most SLR's dont

however i was wrong on the 20d, sorry black 300z (it wasnt meant to say you were cheating, just that you had done it outside of the camera, which is permitted since not all camera's have the B&W function)

he's right about the B&W though, most good photog's dont use it because you discard huge amounts of color info, so if you convert using the channel mixer you can control how much green red and blue is in the image

i thought it was a red filter, if you dont have one you might look into it, it makes the skies on B&W images look really cool!

and im pretty sure that wont be necasary, its an awesome photo, and its within the rules
