MX-5, because against the Mazdaspeed 3 it may be slower but it's a much better driver. As far as straight line speed the 3 will have to contend with WRX, where it'll be at a disadvantage. Basically it boils down to if you need the practicality of the 3, if not then MX-5 is the more enjoyable choice.

Isn't the Impreza a lot more expensive than the 3?Originally Posted by PerfAdv

AFAIK, the Mazdaspeed 3 isn't being sold yet and for a new model to come down in price takes a little time. The Impreza has been out for a few years and you can get it in the low to mid-twenty thousand range. The existing fully loaded versions of the non-Mazdaspeed 3 sell in the low 20s... The Mazdaspeed 3 is going to get sandwiched pretty tight to stay priced under Mazdaspeed 6, which is priced in the high 20s.
The 3 is one car that is very popular and in high demand from Mazda and they don't discount it much.

I asked this because here, the Subaru Impreza WRX costs 33.000 € and the Mazda 6 MPS 35.000 €. I expect the the Mazda 3 MPS to be below/around 30.000 €, which makes it considerably cheaper than the Subaru with similar performance (and a much higher top speed) and more comfort and equipment.Originally Posted by PerfAdv

Here the WRX starts at $25,000 and the Mazdaspeed6 at $28,000. Official pricing on the Mazdaspeed3 isn't out yet but I suspect it will undercut the WRX, not buy much though as a loaded 3 already has MSRP of around $23K. Plus as I mentioned earlier Suburas, especially the WRX can be had for better discounts than Mazda's 3.Originally Posted by Ferrer
It's really a price crunch for cars needing to be priced under $30K, as people who spend more than $30K are going for EVO/STI or an entry level luxury car...

I like the Speed3 myself, there's so many JMiata's out there and I have an MG, so it would sort of be like doubling up. As far as a practical daily driver that would meet my needs the speed3 would do it, but it will be a little pricey.
Imprezas and Lancers as entry leve luxury cars? Americans definitely know nothing about cars... Unless you get very different EVO's and STI's from the ones we have...Originally Posted by PerfAdv

An Evo/Sti is a luxury car in that you don't really NEED one. A much cheaper car will be just as good transport.
