Meanwhile in the real world (Australia) that ACTUAL vehicle model has been on sale here since April 2004

GM owns Holden right? So it would be fairly easy to rebody it and bring it to the states as a Chevy model. I wish they would because a truck like that would be perfect for my practical needs, and with a V8 all my needs.

The concept of of car-based utilities was invented in Oz and they have been continually produced here since the late 1920s

Its another body variant of Holden Commodore platform, which includes sedans in SWB & LWB, crewman, wagon, ute, the One Tonner (tray-truck) and Monaro coupe which is aka Pontiac GTO. Apart from One Tonner, all other versions including the Ute feature optional/standard V8 (6.0 litre L76) and IRS, most are available with manual 6speed

IIRC the related Pontiac GTO 6-speed has no gass-guzzler tax and is heavier than Maloo LS2 ute

But what does something like that do? other then Guzzle fuel make life hard when parking and a bitch to clean.

They're not designed for off-road, so probably just as well as US pickups. We don't use these sort of utes for off-road stuff, they're mostly used by tradies. People who need a ute with off-road by a Hilux 4x4, or Landcruiser or Patrol utes.

UK members should start seeing these on the road soon, if not now, they're being imported into the UK by TWG. And there's no reason why you can't import them into the US, the Commy platform is designed for RHD.

And I just remembered something actually. After we kindly sent you the GTO, and the UAE acted like dickheads, there was this whole big thing about other Holdens going to the US. The ute, particularly the SS, was right up there, as potential replacement for the El Camino. The SS is the ute the Maloo is based on, used to have the LS1, now has the L76. 6-speed, IRS, all the fruit. Honestly, it would've sold damn well I reckon. But the UAE wasn't going to allow it. So y'all missed out.
