Spohn obviously built more than one example with variations on both facia and front fender/door openings, which makes sense... the Earl car was a sensation when first shown and would have been a popular subject for custom bodywork on available chassis (although almost criminal on a pre-war Veritas). Your photos of the green car show those differences to the white Veritas found near Chicago illustrated in this thread:

    A rebodied Chevy given similar treatment:Ralph W. Angel's LeSabre Lookalike - Kustomrama

Which makes an interesting history question, begging for a catalogue of Hermann Spohn's postwar work. If any exist it would be a facinating study. Was your HS classmate father's car a 328 Veritas, and do you know where it is now? Would love to see more photos of it, particularly the front half.

Other LeSabre lookalikes: 1951 GM LeSabre - Kustomrama
Louis Struna's car has similar side detail to the green car in your photos.
Let me first say those 3 green Spohn custom pics posted were taken in SW suburban Chicago. I only have those 3 pix from all those decades ago and would have taken more but you can readily see the clutter problem in that garage. The father died not too many years later. The car was sold about 20 years ago. I relocated it in a warehouse in SoCalif in the '90s, then it sold recently, but no record was kept of its sale. It was based on a Mercury or Lincoln, approximately '52-53 -- I couldn't ID engines very well when I was in high school! I first knew this car when another neighbor owned it when I was still in grade school late '50s and the car was pink pearl and that date is getting closer to its construction so original color?
Yes, I too would love to see a catalog of Spohn's work for the post WWII era until the shop closed in 1956 but am not aware such exists. If it does we might learn if the '49 Veritas was bodied new or after Harley Earl did the LeSabre. We know this: Spohn used this tail design multiple times AS IF it were his own and to me that is an indicator. Not all history is yet written; some needs details corrected; this may be one of those times.

Yes, I can quite clearly tell that this is a Ferrari. The issue is, which one? It's similar to the 458 Italia but the rear doesn't match. The rear looks 430, the rest 458. I'm puzzled. Any help?

Edit: Never mind, it's the 430 Scuderia :P

Nope -this Spohn special was built on an older chassis, but was not built before the LeSabre.

thats just a regular 430, it may be a scuderia, but it is definitely not a 458.

Can someone please tell me what this is?

Thanks. I think (based on the URL) that it's an Alfa-Romeo, but past that it's beyond me.
