I think it's meant as an "all-American" car- the GT40 was developed chiefly here, all the Americans did was lob a huge engine in. And the AC Shelby Cobra was originally a British car that was hugely overworked- hence the 'AC' tag in the name

Just so you know, the giant wing was built in a time where American designers were building all their line-ups around one thing: NASCAR. In those days the cars were going faster and faster, the suspensions were stiffened and lowered, the tires were fatter, the noses were still giant and flat, but the main inovation of the time was the rear wing. Designers noticed that a way they would have an advantage (especialy on the short track) would be bigger wings. So the wings on all american cars were getting bigger and bigger, it pretty much all ended with this car and its 24'' wing, thank god.
