    Future Classic Cars

Your nominations from the past 15 years or so for cars that, in the next 20 - 30 years will be like the MG B, Morris Minor, 993, Ferrari Daytona etc etc.

    Mine would be...

    TVR Cerbera 4.2 V8
    BMW 6 Series
    Honda NSX
    Ferrari 550
    Lambo Gallardo

    I can't believe you didn't include it, the MX-5

I disagree on this one, but the rest I agree strongly with. I think the previous M5 would be more suitable.

I think the S1 Lotus Elise and Exige are already considered classics in many respects but to the people who don't, they are surefire future classics (specifically the Elise). Noble M12 will similarly be a future classic but not so much as the Elise.

I think the Subaru's and Mitsubishi's will have a level of classic status due to their involvment in WRC. It seems that most showroom versions of WRC cars have been considered classics in the past.

MX-5 is too mass production although not a bad car it lacks the power to attract. I'd say the jaguar super V8 portfolio and the new XJR which looks stunning. Wouldn't be surprised if Bentley contential is there too.

Yep, I'll accept the old shape M5 definitely and I reckon the MX5 is worthy for sure.

I didn't say that was my definitive list, just a few a thought of... keep em coming and we can make up a list of UCP Future Classics.

Oh yeah S1 Exige is a shoe-in, so is the very first S1 Elise, the sub-20K Mk1 and I don't reckon the Evo's and Scoobs are special enough to be future classics - maybe the originals, but not the seemingly never-ending spin-offs!

I'd have to disagree with the M12, it's far too much function over form, which although I love that in a car, isn't neccessarily condusive to it being a classic.

Couldn't agree more but I think the Cinquecento is just as worthy.

Good call. I think the Coupe was also one of Bangle's first creations.

Arghhh, I forgot two very important cars:

the most beautiful shape of 1990s - Alfa Romeo GTV
true people's car of 80s and 90s - Fiat Panda

For the sake of diversity I'll throw in BMW 325 Touring E30 (ssshhh,my secret wet dream)

Shit, I meant to mention the Panda.... which one though 1.1ie or 4x4?

I reckon that Beemer already is a classic, along with the E30 M3.

Yeah, that's true. And I see where you're going with the Evo and Subaru not being true classics. However, I do think that the Evo 6 and Impreza 22B will become classics (The 22B kind of already is), because they're quite iconic.

And the MX5 is a definite classic, especially the early models with the pop-up head lights. I would also say that the RX7 will be a future classic, but with the amount of them getting modified nowadays, there wont be any originals left.

I won't lose time mentioning the exotics, because obviously, they will all be valuable classics. Apart from those, I have a small list:

    Renault Twingo (yeah I know)
    MX-5
    NSX
    S2000
    Z4 M coupé
    Smart fortwo an Coupé/Roadster
    Fiat Coupé
    CRX (Del Sol)
    MR2 (first and last generations)
    C4

Will add more as they come to mind.

^^ All good! Except the CRX, but it's never been widely available or popular in the UK, so I shall reserve judgement on that basis.

    Me too!

22B and the P1, the Evo 6 TME? Sure fire classics.

Interesting point about the RX7, but I don't think it will be a lack of originals that will be the problem, rather a sullying of the purity of the design. Farty I know, but that's how classic car people are

Yeah, the Tommi Makkinen edition was always the one which stood out.

Actually I have found that most instant classic of all classics. Morgan Plus 8 ... it's a classic the second it's built
