It's so much better than the original! Except that you probably won't die in a low-speed collision with a small tree. I own an original mini, and the only reason they're so small is that there's no saftey, no luxury.. nothing. It's a little tin box with seats and a steering wheel.. that'll impale you in a frontal impact. Sure the new one is bigger, but that's mainly due to passing safety laws and such. I'm sure they could have made it smaller, but it woulda been worse to drive and worse to live with. Also the bulges on the front of the new new mini aren't just for the slightly bigger (and better) engines, but also to pass the pedestrian safely laws that'll come into effect. A novelty car can only last so long, in order for it to live a long life, it needs to be livable also.

Taking the disguise tape away would annoy me even more. Not only is it now far to big for it to be called a mini but it doesn't even look like one anymore. Plus to top it of the Cooper S wont even be supercharged, but it will be called the S because then it "stays with its roots" (WTF!).

youre right that it wont be supercharged, but it will be turbocharged, and it will still make similar amounts, in fact a slight bit more, horsepower.

i prefer superchargers to turbos, so i am not thrilled about this move, but in every other way i am excited.

Yeah, its not the worst thing in the world. It just annoys me how it is a Cooper S because it is supercharged. Now it wont even be supercharged.

the original S was not supercharged. its was just a bigger engine with better plumbing. the MINI S was supercharged version of the same engine, just to make it quicker than the cooper. the new one will follow the same pattern, just replacing the sc with a tc.

The S in the proper cooper S stood for 'special'. Seriously.

to be even more specific, there was a debarte between Sir Alec Issigonis and John Cooper as to what it stood for, one said Special while the other said Sport. Don't remember which one said which though.

Name a car that hasn't gained weight and size over the last 20 years. The Mini is still a small car.
