If he likes Japanese cars- Nissan Versa, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris
If he likes American cars- Dodge Caliber/ Jeep Compass
German cars are a bit too expensive

Or, if he wants, get a secondhand minivan- Honda Oddysey, Toyota Sienna, and Nissan Quest. I think Kia might have something for under 15 grand but it would have nothing (no A/C, anything).

Or, look at used full-size vans. I just got one and the amount of stuff it could carry is incredible - much more than a pickup, and still has something on the order of ~7000lbs tow capacity. Plus, you can usually pick them up for a song, are cheap (though not necessarily easy) to maintain, and are very simply but sturdily constructed. Gas mileage sucks, but if hauling is a big priority, not much can beat 'em.

I'd also tell him to consider the Dodge Caliber for a new car. Apparently, at 55mph they get some pretty phenomenal gas mileage, and should be able to fit a decent, though not a huge, amount of stuff around. I don't know about there, but here there was an 8-week backlog waiting list for the cars, and so your negotiating room is...well, what negotiating room??

Being an 'old guy' myself, consider a used Ford Crown Vic. The LAST American car that is RWD. HE will like that. Plus a V8. OK, a SMALL V8, but a V8 none the less.

If he can find one that is a couple of years old, you are talking about $10k or less. MPG should be about 16 around town and 22 highway. And it has what I classify as a 'two body' trunk. He will know what that means.

    It's at least a 4 body...

And that's about half the space of an empty one.

Whatever happened to the Chrysler 300C, Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum?
Okay, technically, they're on the Benz E-Class platform but their badges make it American...

    NSXType-R,

In my mind, ONLY the Chrysler 300C or perhaps the Magnum. The Charger would seem to me that it would not qualify for the 'hauls around a lot of stuff' category. But I could be incorrect. And I am unsure of whether or not the 300C or Magnum are front or rwd vehicles. Can someone else enlighten us?

What are their used/new price range? I'm pretty sure that a Crown Vic with four doors does fall into this category and a used one would fall into the price range. I just can't say about the other two, only because I just don't know.

Can anyone else let us know what these two vehicles carry and how much they go for used?

They're all RWD and all of them are 4 doors, the Magnum is a 4 door hatch. All of the cars have an SRT-8 package, pushing out at least 400 HP.
I'm sure it would make a muscle guy like you happy.

Those are nice looking vehicles. Dodge has taken the 'square look' to a whole new level.

And it must have been the new Challenger I've been thinking about instead of the Charger. Dang man, I owned a Charger back in 73/74 and it definately had NO ROOM in the rear. Fast as a scalded dog, until it hit 95 and that was it. Really high gearing...

So, how much scratch we talking about for those vehicles? And that SRT-8 package is REALLY NICE with the added HP.
