There has been speculation for a long time that DaimlerChrysler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, will eventually complete the purchase of the McLaren company.

Minimising losses can maximise net gains
Seems weird to me... not really sure why they would want a different arrangement.

More hassle?
Less potential for blame shifting?

With the flop of the SLR, is buying out McLaren such a good idea? Why sink with them when you can just kill the project and move on to a better one?
People can blame the entire Mercedes F1 car, rather than just the engine
^^ Exactly - which is why I'm not sure McLaren will go for it!
They also have fingers in lots of pies (they did all the composites for the Beagle lander for example) and I'm not sure if a) Mercedes would be happy to fund stuff like that or b) McLaren would want to essentially become a part of mega-corp like DaimlerChrysler. I like to believe that there's a bit of 'Williams' left in them!

McLaren sinking? Not going to happen. The company reverted to Formula 1 cars between 1998 and the SLR introduction. They've lasted between those years, they'll last more as long as the F1 owners are still coming in. They built that very large building in Woking as well. I'm sure Mr. Dennis will see to it the McLaren Group is still around.Originally Posted by NSXType-R

Doh of course. 1963 I believe was their date thanks to Bruce.Originally Posted by MrKipling

Am I the only one that wants to see a mclaren f1 succesor?it should be called the mp4 ...after its f1 car ofcourse(go kimi)hope kimi stays @ mclaren and stomps out alonso. Lol
Kimi has already signed on with ferrari. Schu is retiring at end of '06 season. Everything is hush, hush until championship has been decided.
Thas just speculation, rumors that's all.I say schumi stays till he reaches 10 world championships....lol
Schumi won't leave this year, but he couldn't win 10 championships even if he wanted to, if he wins this year he may retire but I reckon he'll go at the end of 07, before The New Era of F1 (tm)
Oh and it's pretty obvious that Kimi has signed for Ferrari, just not where he'll be next year... if Raikkonen goes in with Schumacher, the Finn will give him some serious trouble.

i cant see McLaren going with this.
they may be partners in Formula 1 but i doubt McLaren or Ron Dennis will go along with this because they want to keep it an exotic car maker and keep their own ideas etc. If they go under Diamler Chrysler then they will be under there control and i just dont see a great company like McLaren being owned by another company.
