    M. Schumacher the best ever??

Seeing how it is likely there are only five races left in his illustrious F1 career, please give your opinions. Here is some footage to give some insight and perhaps a more informed opinion.

    Negative, not the best ever.
He came dancing across the water
    With his galleons and guns
    Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun
    On the shore lay Montezuma
With his cocoa leaves and pearls

    Ditto,

just cuz he had some run-ins and disagreements with other drivers now and again, caused controversy and crashed into a pit-crew member doesn't mean he's not a great driver...

What happened to Ayrton Senna? Sure, he's dead but he was around when I was born. That definately counts as in my lifetime.

Schumie's definitely the most succesful driver ever- most poles, most wins, set lots of track records. And although many people say it was all the car, his teammates, while running well, never had the same success as him.

All his car? Not in the early years of his career with Benneton or Ferrari. Up until 2001, Schumacher tended to have a car that was not the best in the field, but he made up the difference with driving talent. Since then (at least up until last year), Ferrari was the class of the field car wise and hence Schumacher dominated. This year is probably a relative guide as to his greatness or otherwise. The Ferrari, taken over the whole season, not the last few races, has been roughly on par with the Renault. Schumacher and Alonso have gone head to head four times now (Bahrain, Imola, Nurburgring, Hungary) - and the result is 2-2 (I score Hungary as a win to Alonso with the way he drove around Schuey). We're watching a driver who is no longer at his peak take on a driver who is nearing his peak and they're both equal. Schumacher is showing his greatness simply by matching Alonso this year in a car that is no better than Alonso's.
Greatest ever? Though call. Let history decide. Its too early to tell. Much easier to judge once he's retired and given the distance of time to look back.
UCP's biggest Ford Sierra RS500 and BMW M3 E30 fan. My two favourite cars of all time.

Then you're hardly in a position to comment.

Can't believe I'm buying into these type of threads, as it never achieves anything other than the pro and anti lobby come out in force and nothing is ever resolved.

The only thing I will say is that you can't compare drivers from one era to another. Is Michael better or worse than Senna, Fangio, Moss, Ascari etc, you just can't compare them.
