    Pi

Reading TVR is King's thread, his signature inspired me to make a thread about pi. Why not?

Currently, I think the maximum number of digits pi has been calculated to is 1.24 trillion. Why? Well I don't know why! There is no perfect circle in nature, and we will never need to make something so perfect as to need 1.24 trillion digits. It is however a good measure of current computing power.

Me, I remeber 3.14, or the button on my calculator.

The record for reciting pi is 83,431 digits by a 59-year-old Japanese psychiatric counselor. it took 13 hours.

And for a bit of fun, solve this

Move 1 match stike to approximate the equation.

As far as I can remember is 3.141592654

Edit: Oh sweet, I just figured out what that puzzle is saying Although it's not too precise...

phi is more sexy than pi

    1.618033988749894848204586baby

    and so on, also infinitely

    *SPOILER BELOW!*
edit: the match representing one in the denominator must move to where the two matches are, before the 'equals' sign, so it read 3= 22/7, which is (very approx) pi

Yeah I also figured out the puzzle, but that's not how somebody would write that in Roman numbers.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

    Hes wrong?
    :S
It was a matter of time before I found this.
Did you know that Pi to 48 decimal places is sufficiently accurate to inscribe a circle around the entire visible universe without accuracy deviating by more than the length accross a single atom?

I reached 201, then took a break. I am still on that break many weeks later. And I figured out...I made a mistake.
    62860899 is actuall 628620899.
I got incredibly disheartened...and rather depressed after reading this.
I need a Pi avatar. Imagine one just like the one I have, but with 3.1415926......etc.

Move the last matchstick on the bottom row over the top of the first 2 matchsticks.

This turns the first 2 matchsticks into the Pi symbol, giving the equation Pi = 22/7.

Oh fair enough...I thought about putting it over the equals so it says that two equals approximately 22/7...but thats really innacurate.
