    Most people won't.
Nobody's going to pay $130,000 for a 300-hp, 3600+lbs car with 4 doors, 4 seats that looks this BAD.

That pic from AutoBild was just cool.
Personally i expected better from Michael Mauer (Cayman) than Harm Lagaay (Cayenne). But MikeMauer let us down...

    It's a test mule. For God's sake.

Look, see? It's not finished. Get that in your head.

Check this out. Not much like the finished 599, huh?

It's not 'just' the 300bhp engine, either. There's a 350bhp one, then a 560bhp one, and the top-of-the-line car has 700bhp. If you are going to make a statement, make sure you have all your info.

And FYI, it's a BMW estate that they're using for the body, with a V10, for the test mule.

Yes, everyone seems to be having problems understanding that. Or they can't read.

A mule, yes. Although for drivetrain assessment (Or most other assessments carried out before prototypes are made) I wouldn't expect them to throw on a costume on it like that. Why not use a modified, existing body?

The overall shape of the car will remain the same, no matter how much camo is put onto it (w/the exception of the rear wing), as IWantAudiRS6 pointed out in the ferrari test mule photo.
The only things that might change here would be the lights or the front air dam.

btw, that new Cayenne facelift is from the same designer: Michael Mauer, so we can expect an equal amount of ugliness from it.

The Autoblog spy pics don't even vaguely represent a BMW wagon to me.

    Agreed.

I think the final version could very well look like the Autoblog pics to be honest. Will probably look a lot better when they release it, but I'm expecting the same general shape.

As to why Porsche would do something like this, simple really. With Maserati already having the Quattroporte and Aston bringing out there four-door (which looks like a stretched, flabby DB9 in my eyes), Porsche can't afford to miss out. Besides, with the M5, E63 and immenent RS6 closing in on 911 Turbo figures fast, Porsche might as well do a 4 door of their own, load it with power and stamp their authority down like that.

Plus it's going to make money.

As long as the car looks really, really sweet and they put a nice engine in it (like the 4.5 L biturbocharged) and maybe an option of maybe a Carrera GT's V10, everyone will be happy. What this entire thread has proven is that speculation about mules is foggy, at best - and though we are eager, we must wait until that first time the cover is pulled away to see what all hope will be a beauty... *cough* that will crush all other sedans *cough*

I would. It would be a great alternative to the two-door Scaglietti. Then again, chances are they're bringing the 928 back, and if that's the case I would forget about the Panamera in a heartbeat.

The pics I saw at Autoblog and Autospies just do NOT contain any BMW wagons.

Check out the rear window. It's a clearly modified BMW one. The shape is obviously Bangle-ised. I've also seen this reference to BMW wagons quite a few times.

EDIT: Whilst it's not a wagon... does that window look familiar?
