Doing lots of research lately in my spare time. And i came upon something that got me a little excited... the BFG R1s are back! They were at this year's Sema (there's a great photo of a Mustang with R1s here http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfgap...sema/index.jsp) plus R1s are now listed in their tire catalog. Pretty cool. Can't wait for spring.

That's a crazy good tire! How many miles do you suppose they'll last, mostly road with some track time? Looks like the STI's stock rubber...

Don't know much about the R1s but I know the current Auto X and track day "champs" are the Kumho V710. Check them out...

The only thing about kumho's is that they wear down quicker than other tires.

My uncle had Kumho's on his Miata way back in the day, and they lasted about 10,000 miles under normal daily driver use.

    Mickey Thompson and Dunlop ftw.

We had run flat Dunlops (just replaced them with run flat Pirellis) in the Mini and they lasted 46.500km (~28,880 miles) with mainly normal driving and also some abuse. The new Pirellis seem to have more grip, however don't know if they'll last as long as the Dunlops.

I think being very high performance oriented tires, durability shouldn't be an issue when debating R1s and V710s. Threadware is rated 30 for the Kumhos! (A normal tire is rated around 200, my Michelin Pilots MK1 where rated 130 and stuck like gum). Also, they are not DOT legal.

As usual, wondering around trying to dig into issues I found this link which I found very interesting:

He ran V710's? Those tires need to be replaced every other track day if not every track day. I have 2 seasons on my yokohama A032R's and there is still tread.
    V710's are DOT legal magracer.

This was way back in the early 90's. I don't know what tire exactly it was.

I stand corrected but: "NOTE: While KUMHO ECSTA V710 radials meet DOT requirements, they are not appropriate for highway use as the expected miles of wear from their racing tread compounds is greatly reduced."

I would also like to see what the average cop says about the legality of a thread depth of a tire that looks like that.
