2006 Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix

This weekend sees the 2006 season finale at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo. Going into the race both the Drivers' and Constructors' championship titles are still up for grabs. Fernando Alonso is hot favourite to take the WDC, it would take an extremely unfortunate set of circumstances for him to lose it from the position he is in. The WCC is a little harder to call. Renault lead Ferrari by 9 points, but that lead could easily be turned on its head with a strong showing from Ferrari and a slightly disappointing one from Renault.

This Grand Prix is a going to see a number of significant "Lasts"...

    Last race of the season

Last race of Michael Schumacher's long and distinguished career

Last race for Michelin tyres for the forseeable future

Last race for Alonso at Renault

Last race for Raikkonen at McLaren

Last race for Webber at Williams

It could also see something of a significant "First" for the sport too, in that Fernando Alonso could end the weekend being the youngest ever double World Champion in history, just one year after becoming the youngest ever one-time Champ.

Yes, sadly that seems to be the case. Cosworth has apparently been struggling big-style financially recently, losing their flagship Formula 1 contracts was the absolute last thing the company needed. With the engine homologation and the increasing trend towards the big teams selling engines to the minnows, I really can't see any way back for Cosworth.

Also if the rumours are to be believed it will be Ross Brawn's final race behind the reins of Ferrari, at least for a while it seems.

Hopefully Webber will acheive better results next, Im hoping its the car, not him

**Its actually Tony Schumacher, he drives a Top Fuel Dragster for the Army team in NHRA, Micheal Schumacher wouldnt lower himself to drive dragsters

I have completely given up on caring about F1 this season.

I don't think I am even going to bother watching, for the first time in probably 10 years or more*

Thanks F1, you've given me my every-other-Sunday-afternoons back!

    * I.e. - not watch the race out of choice, rather than not being able to watch it through circumstance.
    Thanks for all the fish

Wow, Schumi out of Q3 with what looks like an engine problem in the pits! Twice in two races now for Schumi after five years without an engine failure, you just couldn't write it! Whatever tiny glimmer of hope Michael still had of winning the title has just been snuffed out. Pretty disastrous for Ferrari in terms of the Constructors' title too. He'll start 10th at best, and right the way down in 20th if he has to change the engine.

On the brightside for Ferrari, they are stunningly quick here. Also if Schumacher can't get his storybook final win then it looks like it'll be an emotional home victory for Felipe Massa, which will be nice to see. Great lap from Kimi to put himself on the front row, a bit of a suprise for a few in the paddock as McLaren haven't really impressed all weekend. A good qualy performance from Toyota and Trulli again, the Bridgestone tyres clearly have the advantage over the Michelins over one lap as they did in Japan. Alonso will be more than satisfied with P4, a good position to get at least a solid points finish if not a podium to round off his Championship. Honda also showed some decent pace through Barrichello, but Button had an electronics problem with his car and failed to make the final session so a mixed day for them.

I'd tell you what happened throughout the early part of the session, but my TV decided to break down when I switched it on. I only managed to catch the last session after desperately searching around tinternet for a live stream. Ho hum.

    1. Massa
    2. Raikkonen
    3. Trulli
    4. Alonso
    5. Barrichello
    6. Fisichella
    7. Ralf
    8. Heidfeld
    9. Kubica
    10. M Schumacher
    11. Webber
    12. De La Rosa
    13. Rosberg
    14. Button
    15. Doornbos
    16. Liuzzi
    17. Speed
    18. Albers
    19. Coulthard
    20. Sato
    21. Yamamoto
    22. Monteiro

EDIT: Ross Brawn has just said that it was a fuel pressure problem for Michael, they reckon they might be able to fix it before tomorrow and start Michael from 10th not 20th.

Actually, nothing interesting in the first part of qualis. Except for Coulthard, who was terribly out of pace and didn't make it to the 2nd part. Looks like an awful day for Red Bull, as Doornbos will be starting last, since he had to change the engine.

Should be a walk in the park for Massa if Alonso is on a points scoring position. Massa will go away right after the start, Alonso will keep it steady without risking anything, Schumacher will try to recover some positions but even if he gets to 2nd, Massa will be too far away to get caught(if Alonso retired then he'd slow down to let Schumacher win the title).

This is what's likely to happen :P

    Here's what happens:

22 cars drone about for an hour or so, James Allen is a cock, the end.

Best moment of the season so far:

    on the grid pre-race...

Brundle: "Kimi, you just missed the presentation with Schumacher and Pele, where were you?"

Kimi: "Yeah, I was taking a shit."

Brundle: "Well, erm, your car will be nice and light on the grid then!"

    Ain't live TV great!
