    Schumacher's new role at Ferrari

The moment we've all been wating for...hehehe
world champion driver Michael Schumacher is to stay with Ferrari as assistant to new Chief Executive Officer Jean Todt, the Italian outfit announced at Monza on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Schumacher retired as a driver after piloting his Ferrari to fourth place in the Brazilian Grand Prix last Sunday. The German won a record seven world titles and was with Ferrari as driver from 1996 until he retired.

Todt earlier this week was named Ferrari's new CEO, moving up from the position of General Manager, which went to Amedeo Felisa.

"We are eager to utilise Michael's knowledge and expertise for our technical and strategic needs," Todt told a news conference attended by Schumacher and his co-driver of last season Felipe Massa.

"It will not be necessary for him to be at our factory nor at our test sessions and races, but he will be an important interface for the all the important decisions," he added.

Schumacher said that he would leave it until December before fully getting to grips with his new responsibilities.

"For the moment I just want to get away from things and turn my attentions to my new life. After that I will see what I can do for Ferrari," he added.

Reminds me of Michael Jordan when he hung it up. He became the GM of the Wizards and then he was on the court again. We'll have to see what he can do.

Highly doubt it, there isn't really big sponsorship for people working behind the scenes.

It's only a rumour. Nothing concrete. F1-live has this habit of making a buzz out of nothing...

Well since we're on the subject, has anyone else heard anything about Michael going the way of Juan Pablo and following him to Nascar to run the road course races? Supposedly hes getting $10 million to run them.

Audi has offered 12.5 mln for the LeMans 24 hours.

that seems like it may be rather tempting, racing for the home country in one of the largest races in the world, albeit in a series he has never really raced in. that would be awesome to see.

He did do LeMans, with the Sauber Mercedes junior team. However, he has already declined, considering the race to be too dangerous.

I dunno. I think Ol' Mike should just stay with Ferrari in some capacity and never race again in a serious manner. He won the game of racing. He is the winner. And seeing him go back to it would piss me off. I hate when atheletes retire then come back again- it's lame as hell. Also, he should never go for any other team than Ferrari. It is unfortunate that Ferrari wasn't German, cuz if they were, holy shit that would have been even more insane.
