I have noticed that I have been mentioned in a couple of threads. However I am rather ambiguous to all of this. Of course I like compliments, but I would like to prevent an atmosphere on the forums where we slab each other on the back and create a sort of in-crowd of regular posters. I much rather prefer to see new members with a very specific interest who came to UCP via Google or whatever and are able to discuss their subjects in a grown-up manner.
There are many of such members around which hardly get any exposure, but who are really the interesting part of the forums because their in-depth knowledge can be shared by all members here.

No, but seriously.. you're right. Even though I created this whole Awards thing, I'm also against it in a way, because it leaves out those members who regularly contribute to this forum, but tend not to stand-out as much as others. However, I felt this idea would be a good week or two of fun and competition in the forum, something that I feel can revive the forum back to it's prime.

I can't really say I noticed a drop in user figures. There are a lot more Supporting Members than before, we have a lot of new guys coming, and there is generally new replies to threads that are waiting to be replied to.
One thing that can never happen is a place staying exactly the same. People come and go all the time, some you wouldn't expect, but there are a band of what I would deem 'hardcore' site visitors- I'd like to put myself amongst them, even if it is just for conversation.
I have to say that I don't like the awards thing- it smacks slightly of favouritism and reminds me of school, with all those 'popular' gimps. It may be nice to be nominated, but it just seems vaguely unfair to some others. Still happy to be voted for, though
