Need help on '94 opel swing

i am currently living in the dominican republic, studyin here in med skool. i have had no car as yet, and have been lookin for one for a while now. the car is a 1994 opel swing, being sold by someone at skool.

the price is $2500 USD neg.

now, i need advice as to what problems this car might have, what to look for in a test drive, etc. all and any help is greatly appreciated.

that car is known as a corsa in the uk. in this country its a fine car, focus more on milage, engine size etc, if the cars full of toys like tinted window etc its probably been thrashed. make sure the timing belt has been done if its over 60000 miles on the clock.

Rebadged and sold here as Holden Barina. Not renown for quality or durability, especially if compared against typical japanese cars of the era

Brake disc-rotors are thin & require regular replacement, ABS sensor failure = considerable expense, ECU woes (be suspicious of high-idle speed), front swaybar bushes a common wear problem, cooling system can be marginal (blown head gasket or cracked head) unless well-maintained, timing belt change conservatively advised @ every 60,000kms, water pump not especially durable either, Opel used old-style (cork!) gaskets that shrink & leak, dashboard rattles, poor crash safety

hmm... well, i'll call the guy selling it, then follow up wit a thorough inspection as far as i can, based on my okay knowledge of cars , and i'll come bak. thanx again for the replies.
