The "Classic" name applies only to the main competition section. There were "regularity", "thoroughbred" and "classic tour" sections which allowed pretty much anything. However, these sections had to maintain much lower average speeds. Most of the regularity section cars were cruising past us, some even virtually stopping, as they had obviously got too far ahead of their time targets and didn't wish to pick penalties.

do you need a race training for entering the non competition sector?

The CLSes were entered by Mercedes, along with a bunch of SL63s, E63s and a coule of CLK63s. Quite a sight to see most of the AMG range parked next to each other at the Street Party!

Probalby. As far as I know the SL AMG models are only offered in 5.4-litre supercharged V8 and 5.5-litre twin turbo V12 guises.

henk4, the Mercedes CLS was not the only non-classic car involved in the rally. I saw 2 BMW Z4 M's and a Porsche Cayman S as well. Those cars were part of the Classic Adelaide Rally as well.
