Supertrapp's exhaust systems are pretty well though-out, actually. They look confusing at first but they've got advantages. Naturally, anyone can see that they could never flow as well as an open pipe, but that's not what they're made for. First of all, it's a great silencer, and it's a heck of a lot lighter than a muffler. Secondly (and most importantly for most cars that use them), they prevent fireballs from being thrown at anyone who happens to be standing behind the car. I've heard that government forestry trucks often install systems like these.

I remember seeing a Purple Sledgehammer Roadster driving around.

When the roof is cut off, it has these two bars sticking out of the back, and an amazingly low windscreen.

The Roadster is 1000 times more beautiful then the coupe.

Folks. I'm glad to see some discussion around this car. As the founder of Callaway Cars, I can contribute a few facts. This car was built for top speed events, popular in the late 80's. We built her with the objective of winning each of those magazine contests with one car instead of building a new car each year, no matter who showed up. The strategy was to enter each event, run at whatever speed was necessary to win (but only by a bit) and then return the next year and repeat. But to validate what was to be the ultimate top speed, we had to test. The results of that test, at Transportation Research Center, Bellfontaine, Ohio, leaked out to the wider public; 254.76 mph. No one ever showed up for another test against the Sledgehammer. There are many more elements to the story, if anyone cars to hear.

Interesting story and car indeed! If you have any more high resolution pictures or stories, feel free to post them. Is the car still around?

Indeed, those inside stories are interesting.
