Worst selling car in the UK 2003

I have just found 2003 sales figures for the best selling cars in the world, and the worst selling cars in the UK.

So what god-awful heap of junk could be Britains worst selling car?

    Maybach. 9 cars sold.
2nd Worst Honda NSX: 20 sold
25 fools spent 32k on a brand new Honda Legend
The Maybach's only direct competitor, the much criticised Rolls Royce Phantom sold 34. Not many you may say, but that is the same number as Lamborghini's Murcielago, and as it costs twice as much that's not too bad.

    Other poor performers are:
Maserati Spyder 86 - Poor quality. Apparently dealers order two, one for the customer, and one to replace all the bits that are going to break. I kid you not.
VW Phaeton 99 - Badge snobbery, VW's upmarket gamble doesn't seem to be paying off.

Best seller was the Ford Focus, with 129,054
    USA 413,296 Toyota Camrys
    Germany 204,717 VW Golfs
    France 163,069 Renault Clios
    Italy 184,092 Fiat Puntos
    Japan 204,392 Toyota Corollas
    Australia 82,295 Holden Commodores
    Thanks for all the fish

Pfft Ford Falcons are better than Commodores in every way except sales.

Aha, lies, damn lies and statistics

If this list were to be any use it would have to be weighted.

How many Maybach were AVAILABLE for sale to the UK ?
There may only have been 10, in that case a 90% penetration is pretty good ( except when the SO is concerned )

Equally price. As a company I'd prefer to sell 10 cars at 1/2million than 100 cars at 50 thousand - assuming similar company overheads and costs.

Good fun though and good for a 5-minute argument !!
Any other snippets like the Maserati ????

i hope you know you wont get off all that easy saying that. its in my opinion that the falcon is better, same as you, but not only are the cars seperated by minor differences now and alot is just in the individual perception of the cars, but alot of australian members, namely crisis (who he himself owns a series 1 SV8) would like to see some reasoning

I think the Lotus Espirit was on the list last year. The Espirit is one of the best looking cars ever, I don't know how it sells so badly.

It's been on sale for about 25 years now.

The cars you mentioned on the list are all either high performance cars or upper luxury cars. Hardly fair to compare them to the top sellers. Of more interest, what would be the worst selling of the mainstream cars under, say, UK30,000 pounds?

Also, worth noting that the UK's best seller, the Ford Focus, could only manage 15th place in Australia for 2003 with 12,502 sales...

The Esprit was officially taken off the price lists of Lotus this year, marking the end of it's 31 year production run.

As for the worst selling car under 30,000 pounds, that may be more representitive of the actual market trend.

In denmark there has even been sold a Maybach or Rolls Royce Phantom yet. last year, the most expensive car sold was a Bentley Arnage R and there was only sold 1... and there were sold 32 porsches (Cayenne, 911, Boxster and 2 Carrera GTs)

I think the Falcon sold better than the Commodore last year in Australia.

the commodore found about 10,000 more buyers than the falcon with each accuulating about 70,000 and 80,000 buyers respectfully. what the falcon did do though was one of the months outsell the commodore by about 200 sales. the big thing about it was it ended the commodores sales reign, it had beaten the falcon for over 60 consecutive months

Isn't there a thing were you can't sell a car for more than you bought it for?
