The LS7 is better in every measurable aspect.
maybe if you like a primative 50's pushrod engine, it's just my opinion nogg. Nor what you've said changes the fact that the car has won these awards. The chevy engine is gold but i would simply prefer formula one technology under my bonnet. give credit where its due

The design wasn't broke. Why fix it? To fulfill some bench racer 13 year old fanboi's wet dreams?

Do you actually know how old OHC engines are? IIRC the Porsche 356 Carrera was the first road car with OHC (though it may have been DOHC) and that's ~50 years old.

    Older than that.

I'm not that smart, so can someone CLEARLY explain to me why they would want the M5's engine over the LS7?

Because apparently, a heavier engine with more technology to go wrong in it is a much, much better engine than an unburstable, heavily tunable V8.

The LS7 has more soul, more tuning potential, cheaper parts, less weight, cheaper overall price, therefore is better.

Those who choose the M5 engine should really think carefully about that choice. It's already at the edge of its performance envelope, so why not get a lazier, more hefty V8 that can be ridiculously upgraded?

I nearly fell off my chair when I read this, since over on TheCarLounge/Whoretex, only German cars have 'soul.'

If you're ever in southeastern PA, look me up. I'll buy you a beer for that one.

    You're joking, right?

Listen to one at tickover... the uneven throb is just marvellous, then as you take it further up the rev range... it's one of the few noises in this world that I could listen to all day, every day!

The M5's V10 is flat, blaring, and not really that nice to listen to. Hardly the symphony that the LS7 can manage. That's just me, though.

I hope you're not taking the piss, VW boy

I isht you not. TCL/Vortex is basically a bunch of American wanna-be-Euros stroking their dashboards and dreaming of buying nothing but Lupo's and RS4's and Diesel everything. It's heaven.

I guess it's a case of the grass being greener. I hear loud V8 muscle all the time. Rarely do I hear the sounds of a screaming
    V10.

Edit: This place is kind of the opposite, since it's mostly European. I guess it's the yin to my yang?

Well than maybe you can explain to me why you chose the M5's engine over the LS7. Convince me I should agree with you.

I didn't choose the M5 engine. Read all of my post and not just the first line of it. I found it funny because on another forum I go to, the mentality is exactly the opposite of IWAARS6's.

Or you can be convinced to respect that people vary in opinion.

I love Euro cars and Yank cars in pretty much equal measure. I appreciate the vicious, hard-edged nature of the BMW M3, but by the same measure adore the simple entertainment provided by a large piece of cu. in. and RWD (say, a Monaro, or an old Camaro SS).

Haven't you got any Vipers around your way? More proof that the V10 isn't that much of an awesome engine...!

Correct, Kevin. If your raging side is your love for Euro, that is.
