i'll go with the m5. its a thirsty engine being a 5 litre but 7 litres (LS7) is too much consumption.

i prefer the vette's. i'm a sucker for a deep throaty sounding engine. no replacement for displacement. and well thats a great proven engine. it'll do 1000 horses no issue

The M5 (and M6) engine is the S85B50.

In 2005 the S85B50 won 4 categories of the International Engine of the Year awards: International Engine of the Year, Best Performance Engine, Best New Engine and Best Above 4.0-litre, and retained those titles for 2006, apart from Best New Engine, of course.
    Thanks for all the fish

Yet the Vette gets a better mpg rating than the Bimmer.

I'm gong with the LS7. Its smaller, probably lighter (cant find the weight of the V10 anyone have it?) and gets nearly the same HP as a the BMW 5.0 Liter, and almost 100 more lb-ft.

BMW should put that in a truck.

    This is a little contradictory.

Of course the LS7 have more binary, it's a 7 liters engine! Trucks need that, not sports cars.
And i don't know why did you said that S85 probably weights more because it's a V10. Theorically, a 7 liters engine should weight more than a 5 liters one...

Already getting bad, looks like we need to introduce some facts here...
Theres a rough dyno plot at the bottom of the post, the LS7 makes more torque at every RPM (no surprise).
The LS7 is also lighter, weighing in at 440lbs undressed (with clutch assembly and headers though):http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=398927
    While the M5's V10 is 520+lbs.
I wouldnt be surprised if it was smaller too, the LS1 (same size as LS7) easily fits in the 3 series engine bay.

LS7. When it breaks, it's cheaper to fix.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

I have to agree with coventry on this one, I mean the Bimmer has won enough awards to prove its merit

    ignorance is bliss?
Displacement is irrelevant, doesnt show weight or physical size. The LS7 is actually smaller than the 4.0L 1UZ V8...
