I need the wisdom of the young.

What is the difference between an iPod and iPod Nano (other than size)? I don’t get why a 30g iPod costs the same as an 8g Nano. I want one to hook up to my head unit in my car.
    Guys?

Are the Nanos the ones that don't have a screen or control of the playlist? That's stupid.

(I work at an electronics store, I should know this...)

The nano has a lot less storage space, but is considerably smaller. It uses a flash drive instead of a hard drive so it can access information quicker and transfer songs from your computer faster.

Pros: Small, lightwieght, vivid color screen, has click wheel, fits in pocket nicely

Cons: Can't play videos like iPod 30GB and 80GB, less battery life than 30GB and 80GB, small storage compared to normal iPods, so small that you might crush it in your muscular hands

I'm afraid this is a signature, a very pathetic one.

The Shuffle is the one lacking the screen; the Nano is the ridiculously small one. The 8GB Nano is so pricey because of its small size, you pay a premium to cram all that technology into such a compact shell.

The 30GB is a much better deal, it's still more than small enough (the Nano is too prone to being crushed/lost) and you'll welcome the added space as your music collection grows. Also with the 30GB you can throw on some videos and what have you, use it as a hard drive, so on so forth.

See Timeh's pro/con list for a good summary. Basically all the Nano has on the 30GB is quicker data access and smaller size, if the latter's even that much of a plus.

Thanks gentlemen. I know what they look like and I suspected it was about the size. As the size isnt a factor I will go for the 30 iPod.

the 30gig's harddrive will scratch itself if its tossed and turned alot like if you were to use it while working out. and all the stuff mentioned above.

    Fatty

The 30Gb is a great choice. If you view it as $/Gb, then it kicks the crap out of every other iPod model- if I went by the same pricing as my Shuffle, then a new 30Gb should theoretically be £2370
